Very warm and dry conditions are expected today. A weak trough will move in mid to late week but overall, will see continued warm and dry conditions along with breezy afternoon winds. Little if any precipitation is expected with this trough, with only a low chance (10-20%) for light rain along the Coos and Douglas coast late Wednesday into Thursday. Then, as high pressure builds temperatures are expected to trend hotter and humidities drier this weekend.

HALF SHELL FEATURES CONTEMPORARY JAZZ TUESDAY NIGHT

It’s an evening of contemporary jazz at Music on the Half Shell, Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. at the Nichols Band Shell in Roseburg’s Stewart Park.

Special EFX is a Grammy nominated supergroup with 34 combined albums, 7 Billboard #1 hits and decades of domestic and international touring. Appearing as the Special EFX All-Stars, Tuesday’s roster has a mix of renowned musicians and vocalists, all with extensive credits to their name. A recent single, “Cool Summer” reached the #1 spot on the Billboard charts in 2024.

Half Shell is in its 33rd year of providing diverse music from around the world. Thanks to dozens of sponsors, the shows are free to the public. Buckets are passed during intermission to let concert goers contribute as well. Food trucks and vendors will have a variety of dinner items. Those attending can bring their own meal as well, along with wine or beer. Blankets can be put out ahead of time.

ABOVE NORMAL HIGH TEMPERATURE FORECAST FOR ROSEBURG TUESDAY

Above normal high temperatures are forecast for Roseburg on Tuesday.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Medford told News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN that the mercury should reach 88 degrees at the Roseburg Regional Airport. The normal high temperature for June 24th is 80 degrees.

Due to an equipment issue, no official high temperature was recorded at the airport on Monday.

CHI MERCY HEALTH TO HOST EMERGENCY RESPONSE EXERCISE TUESDAY

CHI Mercy Health will hold an incident response exercise on Mercy’s main campus on Tuesday.

It will take place from approximately 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at 2700 Northwest Stewart Parkway in Roseburg. The exercise will have no immediate impact on patient care.

WINSTON-DILLARD SCHOOL DISTRICT HAS SUMMER MEAL DISTRIBUTION UNDERWAY

The Winston/Dillard School District has its summer meal distribution underway.

Grab-N-Go breakfast and lunches are available Mondays through Thursdays through August 14th. There is the choice of a hot or cold meal, which also includes fruit, vegetables and milk. One breakfast and one lunch per day per child will be served for all children through ages 18. Look for the yellow LunchBox Express van.

Meals are available at:

  • McGovern Elementary from 8:15 a.m. to 8:25 a.m.
  • Douglas High from 8:30 a.m. to 8:40 a.m.
  • Brockway Elementary from 8:45 a.m. to 8:55 a.m.
  • Lookingglass Elementary from 9:10 a.m. to 9:20 a.m.
  • Dillard Alternative High School from 9:35 a.m. to 9:45 a.m.
  • Winston Middle School from 9:55 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.
  • Civic Wayside Park from 11:35 a.m.to 11:55 a.m.
  • Community Park from 12:00 p.m. to 12:15 p.m.

The summer food program is part of USDA Food and Nutrition Service and is administered by the Oregon Department of Education Child Nutrition Programs.

H.O.P.E DRUG COURT GRADUATE PHASE CAR WASHES

Multiple H.O.P.E. Drug Court graduate phase participants have scheduled car washes to raise money for their community projects.

The Douglas County H.O.P.E. Drug Court program is preparing for their 110th graduation on August 26th. It will begin at 5:15 p.m. in the Cascade Hall building at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. Four of the graduate phase participants are taking advantage of the summer weather by holding car washes to benefit each of their community projects.

The first car wash will be on June 28th and 29th from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Abby’s Legendary Pizza on Northeast Stephens Street in Roseburg. This event benefits the Connect Point mobile navigation program and the Adapt Opiod Treatment program to collect items to make wound care kits.

Other car washes will be held:

  • July 4th and 5th from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at NAPA Auto Parts in Drain. This will benefit the Adapt Crossroads inpatient treatment program.
  • July 12th from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Abby’s Legendary Pizza on Northeast Stephens Street in Roseburg. This will benefit the Douglas County Juvenile Detention Center and the River Rock and Rising Light inpatient programs.
  • July 12th from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Sherm’s Thunderbird on Northwest Stewart Parkway in Roseburg. This will benefit the Child Welfare program.

RIDDLE SAWDUST JUBILEE HAPPENING FRIDAY AND SATURDAY

The News Review

The Riddle Sawdust Jubilee is happening on Friday and Saturday.

Small Town, Big Blast is the theme.

Events begin with the Riddle Farmers Market Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Shamrock’s lot. At 6:00 p.m. an axe thrown contest will begin on the front lawn of Riddle High School.

Saturday’s highlights include:

  • Community breakfast from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Riddle
  • Free parade sign-up from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Riddle Elementary
  • Car show registration takes place from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the RHS parking lot
  • Little Mister & Miss Firecracker Contest at 9:30 a.m. at the Main Street stage
  • Vendor booths will open on Main Street at 10:00 a.m.
  • The Sawdust Jubilee Parade starts at 11:00 a.m. at the town square.
  • The car show will be in the RHS parking lot from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • Bingo takes place from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Riddle City Hall
  • DJ music and concessions will be at the softball field on Park Street from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
  • The fireworks show begins at 10:00 p.m.

PATRIOT CAMP HAPPENING JULY 7TH-11TH IN ROSEBURG

Douglas County Patriot Camp will be held July 7th-11th.

The camp is for children entering grades 1-6 and will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at Covenant Lile Church, at 1553 Northeast Vine Street. The camp is not affiliated with the church.

Patriot Camp includes three learning stations, games, crafts, snacks, as well and an opening and closing time with historic and patriotic singing. This year’s theme is the American Revolution: What led to it, the major battles, its impacts, the treaty of Paris and the constitutional convention.
