Dry weather will continue through most of the weekend. Marine layer brought low clouds last night to the coast, and similar areas can expect to see this tomorrow. Over the interior, it will be warm the rest of week with mostly typical diurnal breezes, and seasonable humidity. Saturday and Sunday will trend hotter with the hottest day on Sunday. Sunday will likely remain dry with cumulus build ups over the mountains in California. Worst case scenario will be an isolated storm or two in the Trinity Horn late Sunday afternoon and evening. The risk for storms will be higher over most interior locations Monday.

WARM UP COMING TO UMPQUA VALLEY FOR THE WEEKEND

The Umpqua Valley will see one more day with highs in the low 80’s Friday before a warm-up for the weekend.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Medford told News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN that afternoon temperatures will increase several degrees on Saturday as a high-pressure system begins building in the area. Sunday’s high temperature should be in the low 90s.

Temperatures will drop back to the mid-80s starting on Monday.

The mercury hit 82 degrees at the Roseburg Regional Airport on Thursday.

DFPA RESPONDING TO FIRE NEW LITTLE RIVER ROAD

Late Thursday night, crews with the Douglas Forest Protective Association responded to a fire located in slash and timber near Little River Road in the Glide area.

The fire was initially estimated to be between 10 and 15 acres in size with no structures threatened. More information is expected later Friday from the DFPA.

MOVIES IN THE PARKS FRIDAY NIGHT

Roseburg Parks and Recreation continues its “Movies in the Park” series on Friday night.

The series is also presented by Rogue Credit Union.

A city release said the movie “Inside Out 2” will be shown on the giant screen at the Nichols Band Shell in Stewart Park starting around 9:00 p.m. Pre-movie entertainment will begin at 7:30 p.m. featuring Umpqua Actors Community Theatre performing portions of its production “Anatasia”.

Attendees can bring their own food and drinks, but alcohol is not allowed. Snacks, including popcorn and cotton candy will be available.

Children under age 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Tobacco use is not allowed in the City of Roseburg Parks. Pets are not permitted at the event.

SUMMER ARTS FESTIVAL HAPPENING FRIDAY THROUGH SUNDAY

Umpqua Valley Arts has its Summer Arts Festival happening Friday through Sunday at Fir Grove Park on West Harvard Avenue in Roseburg.

Considered Southern Oregon’s premier celebration of arts and culture, and now in its 56th year, the event draws over 10,000 visitors annually and continues to serve as a showcase of creativity, community and connection.

The festival features more than 110 local and regional artists offering handcrafted works in all media, from fine art and jewelry to ceramics and textiles. Attendees can enjoy live music and entertainment on two stages, family friendly art experiences in the Youth Zone, plus partake from the diverse selection of food vendors and craft beverages.

Festival hours are 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday. Artist vendor booths close one hour earlier on Friday and Saturday, while the main stage and food court remain open.

AMENDED FIRE PREVENTION ORDER FOR BLM-ADMINISTRED LANDS ROSEBURG DISTRICT

The Bureau of Land Management has updated the restrictions and prohibitions on specific activities and equipment to mitigate the risk of human-caused fires on lands administered by the BLM on the Roseburg District.

Roseburg District Manager Heather Whitman said, “The public plays a valuable role in preventing wildfires on BLM administered lands. The Fire Prevention Order asks the public to do their part to prevent wildfires by adhering to these specific requirements”. Whitman said, “The national average of human-caused wildfires comprises 86 percent of all wildfire occurrences every year. We are seeking the public’s help in lowering this percentage”.

The order goes into effect on June 30th and will remain in effect on BLM-administered lands within the Roseburg District Boundary until further notice.

BLM PLANS RESCRIBED BURN AT DEAN CREEK ELK VIEWING AREA

Fire officials with the Bureau of Land Management plan to conduct a prescribed burn at the Dean Creek Elk Viewing Area east of Reedsport on June 30th and July 1st.

A BLM release said agency officials will burn approximately 100 acres of grass to improve elk forage and habitat at the popular wildlife viewing area. They will also reduce hazardous fuels in the roadside grasslands. Currently, the area is home to a wild herd of 80 to 100 Roosevelt Elk.

H.O.P.E. DRUG COURT PARTICIPANT WITH FIRST NAMI AWARENESS WALK

A H.O.P.E. Drug Court participant has partnered with the National Alliance on Mental Illness to create the first 5K walk/run in Douglas County called “Together We Heal” emphasizing the importance of reducing the stigma around mental illness.

Barb Hofford of NAMI Douglas is helping upcoming HOPE Drug Court graduate Kristi Parham and said, “Her life, and those of some family members, have been majorly impacted by mental health issues”. Hofford said those graduating from the program are required to do a community service project that helps a cause they feel strongly about. Hofford said, “We are very fortunate she chose Mental Health Awareness as her service project and invited NAMI Douglas to partner with her. We are privileged to help with this very worthwhile project”. Parham said, “I am excited about this one. I want to help reduce stigmas and provide awareness and resources at the event.”

NAMI Douglas is an organization of families, friends and individuals whose lives have been affected by mental illness. Together, they advocate for better lives for those individuals who have a mental illness.

The Mental Health Awareness 5K walk/run event will be on Saturday, July 26th, starting at the Stewart Park pavilion in Roseburg. Information tables will open at 9:00 a.m. The ribbon cutting and walk/run will start at 10:00 a.m. Free event t-shirts will be available while supplies last. UMPQUA VALLEY AMATEUR RADIO CLUB WILL HOLD FIELD DAY SATURDAY

The Umpqua Valley Amateur Radio Club will hold a Field Day this Saturday.

It will begin at 11:00 a.m. at OC Brown County Park on Buckhorn Road, just east of Dixonville, off Highway 138E. Organizers will have several stations set up and welcome anyone with an interest in amateur radio to learn more about it.

The club wants to show the public what they do and possibly turn their interest into joining what the hobby has to offer. They are hoping to broaden their ability to support emergency capacities.
