AGENCIES ANNOUNCE START OF FIRE SEASON ON FRIDAY
KQEN News Radio

The Douglas Forest Protective Association, the Umpqua National Forest and the Bureau of Land Management Roseburg District have announced that the 2025 fire season will officially begin at 12:01 a.m. on Friday.
All private, county, state, and Bureau of Indian Affairs land within the Douglas District as well as all public lands within the Umpqua National Forest and Roseburg District BLM are included in the fire season declaration, which imposes certain fire restrictions on the public and industrial operators to help prevent wildfires.
In addition to the declaration of fire season, the DFPA will implement Public Use Restriction Level Moderate and Industrial Fire Precaution Level 1. In addition, the BLM Roseburg District will issue a Fire Prevention Order for BLM-administered lands. Public use restrictions will be assessed and announced later for the Umpqua National Forest.

NEW DEL TACO STORE OPENS THURSDAY (Today)
KQEN News Radio

Nearly three years after a late-night fire destroyed their former building, Thursday is day one of operations for the new Del Taco store on Northwest Stewart Parkway in Roseburg.
Wednesday the store was open around lunchtime and again in the early evening for VIP events, which also served as training sessions for the new staff.
The new building is just over 2,300 square feet with seats for 48 people in the dining room, along with a drive-through. It uses what the company calls its Fresh Flex design, which is described as a very modern look.
Cactus Enterprises Direction of Operations Erick Marsh said Del Taco has a long tradition of serving quality fresh food. Marsh said beans for example, are still made from scratch. Chicken and steak are cooked fresh in-house throughout the day. Cheese is grated from 40 pound blocks every morning. Pico de Gallo and guacamole are made fresh daily. Marsh claims their Double Del Cheeseburger is one of the best cooked to order cheeseburgers around.
Cactus Enterprises also operates 6 other Del Taco stores in Oregon: Salem, Albany, two in Medford, Klamath Falls and Bend. The new store has about 50 employees.
DOWNTOWN PARK GETS CONCRETE GAMES DONATION
KQEN News Radio

A tiny park in downtown Roseburg is being transformed into a recreational gem with the donation of cornhole boards and a ping pong table.
A City of Roseburg release said in late May, Stone Age Concrete Games of Roseburg built and installed a 2,400-pound concrete ping pong table and two concrete cornhole boards weighing 400 pounds each in Eagles Park on Southeast Jackson Street. Thrive Umpqua helped connect the family-owned company with city officials and Parks and Recreation staff.

The park already offered two concrete picnic tables with inlaid chess/checker boards in a quarter acre of green open space. However, the park has often been overlooked by those coming downtown to shop, dine or work.
However, that is starting to change with a recent influx of students living across from the park in Umpqua Community College’s new dorm, Hawk’s Hideaway.
Stone Age Concrete Games is owned by the James family and began 15 years ago. It was the first business to focus on concrete table and lawn games in North America and remains the principal company with that focus. Most of their products are shipped to California, Texas and Florida.
Stone Age Concrete donated the ping pong table and cornhole boards to Eagles Park in memory of a late Roseburg resident, Bobby Troup. Troup was a former tennis pro who came to love ping pong and opened the “Pit” – a large warehouse style room with a ping pong table in the back of the of Mid Oregon Printing on Southeast Stephens Street – to a devoted “underground” ping pong club that played together four nights a week.
Josh James has organized regular play at the park on Thursday nights at 6:00 p.m. A Facebook page where participants can get more information has been created: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1797773937440516/

Douglas County Sheriff's Office Tactical Response, Crisis Negotiation Teams Called to Disturbance
Douglas County Sheriff's Office

Several members of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 1800 block of Melqua Road in Roseburg at about 6:30 pm Tuesday, June 3rd, 2025 to investigate a report of males fighting and a gunshot heard.
Upon arrival, deputies located two males, aged 45 and 51, both of Roseburg, seated in the cab of a parked grey 1994 Toyota pickup. Deputies observed the elder of the two males was bleeding and appeared injured.
Both were uncooperative with efforts to contact them and attempts to evaluate the injured subject’s medical condition. Negotiators from the DCSO Crisis Negotiations Team attempted de-escalation and a peaceful resolution for more than four hours.
Members of the DCSO Tactical Response Team then approached with a K-9 and contacted the younger male. He remained uncooperative but was ultimately apprehended with use of the K-9. The second subject had obvious injuries from an assault.
Both involved males were transported by Umpqua Valley Ambulance to Mercy Medical Center for treatment.
Deputies were granted a search warrant for the pickup truck, and they located two handguns and ammunition inside.
Due to the injuries sustained, charges will be referred to the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office.
Deputies were assisted on scene by responders from several agencies including the Roseburg Police Department, Winston Police Department, Oregon State Police, Sutherlin Police Department, Umpqua Valley Ambulance and Central Douglas Fire and Rescue.
Winston’s Fourth of July Fireworks Are Officially Back On
The Roseburg Receiver

After weeks of uncertainty and a strong community push, the fireworks are officially a go! Thanks to the hard work and determination of the Winston Area Independence Day (WAID) Association, the skies over Winston and Dillard will once again light up this July 4th in celebration of freedom, family, and community.
The long-standing tradition- now celebrating its 5th year with WAID - was at risk of cancellation due to funding challenges. But with support from local fundraising, business donations, and dedicated volunteers, the show is back on.
This year’s celebration includes more than just fireworks:
- Vendors & Food Trucks
- Parade
- Kids Activities
- Live Music
- Games, Food, and Family Fun
Residents, volunteers, and anyone interested in helping are encouraged to attend the next WAID meeting:
Thursday, June 5th at 6:00 PM
Location: Riverbend Park in Winston
The meeting will include updates, planning info, and ways to get involved. Everyone is welcome.
While the fireworks are confirmed, more funding is still needed to support the full range of activities and keep this annual tradition alive in future years. Donations of any amount are still appreciated.
This isn’t just about a fireworks show - it’s about keeping something special going for the entire Winston-Dillard community and beyond.
Let’s make the 5th year one to be proud of.
