Fire Danger

Roseburg Area Morning News
ROSEBURG TO SEE HIGHS UP TO 20 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL
KQEN News Radio

The Umpqua Valley will see high temperatures of up to 20 degrees above normal through Monday.
Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Medford told News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN that a combination of upper-level high pressure in the region and a thermal trough moving inland from the Brookings area will drive afternoon high temperatures to their hottest levels so far in 2025.
Forecasters said Friday’s high temperature in Roseburg will be near 90 degrees, with the highs elevating to the mid and even possibly upper 90s for the weekend and into Monday.
The temperatures will approach and possibly tie the record high temperatures for the date on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Saturday’s record high temperature is 96 degrees, set in 2016. On Sunday, the record high is 99 degrees, reached in 2015. Monday’s record high is 94 degrees, set in 2015.
Temperatures will cool to the upper 80s on Tuesday and drop further as next week progresses.
FIRE SEASON NOW UNDERWAY FOR DOUGLAS FOREST PROTECTIVE ASSOCIATION
KQEN News Radio

The Douglas Forest Protective Association has announced that the 2025 fire season is now underway!
All private, county, state, and Bureau of Indian Affairs land within the Douglas District are included in the fire season declaration, which imposes certain fire restrictions on the public and industrial operators to help prevent wildfires.
In addition to the declaration of fire season, the DFPA has implemented Public Use Restriction Level: Moderate and Industrial Fire Precaution Level: 1.
For complete information about public and industrial fire restrictions, go to: DFPA: www.dfpa.net
FIRE DANGER INCREASES TO MODERATE ON ODF SOUTHWEST OREGON DISTRICT
KQEN News Radio

Fire danger on the Oregon Department of Forestry Southwest Oregon District-protected land will increase to moderate on Saturday at 12:01 a.m.
Public Information Officer Natalie Weber said land affected by this declaration includes the 1.8 million acres of state, private, county, city and Bureau of Land Management forestlands in Jackson and Josephine counties. Weber said the Industrial Fire Precaution Level will remain at one. Weber said hot temperatures and windy conditions for the past couple of weeks have prompted vegetation to dry at a slightly faster rate. This, in combination with the weather conditions, has contributed to new fire starts and growth. Since the start of the fire season on June 1st, ODF Southwest Oregon District firefighters have responded to four fires in the span of four days, stopping all at an acre total.
With temperatures predicted to reach the threshold of 100 degrees and potential thunderstorms in the forecast this weekend, new regulations will go into effect. KQEN News Radio

On Wednesday, at their weekly business meeting, Douglas County Commissioners Tim Freeman, Tom Kress and Chris Boice issued a proclamation calling on all citizens in the county to observe Nurse Appreciation Week through Sunday.
A county release said the proclamation was presented by Commissioner Boice and acknowledged that, “Nursing is not merely a vocation, but a calling to selflessly serve others by providing quality, compassionate and critical healthcare to patients during routine medical visits, long-term care situations, surgeries, emergencies and in times of great uncertainty”.
This week, the commissioner celebrated the men and women in the county that have chosen to serve others in the nursing profession.
Commissioner Tom Kress presented Nurse Appreciation Week proclamation certificates to nurses and administrators from CHI Mercy Medical Center, Aviva Health Care, Umpqua Health Alliance, UCAN’s Nurse Home Visiting Program, Umpqua Community College-Nursing Program and Douglas County Sheriff’s Office – Corrections Division.
The release said the county has approximately 1,500 dedicated nursing professionals as part of the local workforce, as well as a robust and highly recorded Nursing Education Program at Umpqua Community College.
