A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through 5:00 a.m. Saturday for mountain areas in parts of southern Oregon.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said snow is expected, which could be heavy at times. Snow accumulations of 8 to 16 inches are forecast, except locally up to 2 feet around Crater Lake. Winds will be gusting as high as 45 miles per hour.

DOUGLAS COUNTY FLOODING EVENT RESPONSE UPDATE

KQEN News Radio

Recovery mode from Sunday’s flood event continues in Douglas County.

A county release said those in need of flood related resources or who have flood related questions should call the Oregon 2-1-1- Info Line: https://www.211info.org/

County Public Works staff along with some private local contractors continue to work on new mudslides, shoring up existing mudslides, repairing and cleaning up roads, repairing sewer and water systems and more.

The Oregon State University Extension service has staff available to assist farmers, wineries, private forest landowners, and ranchers assess damage, estimate losses and determine the potential for Federal assistance.

The American Red Cross, at the request of Douglas County, has opened a temporary emergency shelter at the Douglas County Fairgrounds for residents who have been displaced by the storm. At this time, the plan is for the shelter to be open through Sunday. The Red Cross will evaluate the situation on Monday to see if shelter services are still needed.

For more information and to see a map of roads with active mudslides, go to the county’s March 2025 Flood Event Information page at: https://douglascountyor.gov/

WILDLIFE SAFARI SEEKING SUPPORT FOLLOWING RAIN/FLOODING

KQEN News Radio

Wildlife Safari is asking for support, following recent damage due to Sunday’s heavy rain and flooding

Executive Director Dan VanSlyke said some parts of the over 600-acre park are now in need of urgent repairs. VanSlyke said some sections of the drive-through remain closed to ensure the safety of guests, staff and wildlife.

Damage includes washed-out roadways and culvert failures, along with the need for extensive repairs requiring heavy equipment and rock reinforcement.

Van Slyke said with the busy summer season approaching, restoring full access to the park is critical – not just for providing the best possible care for animals, but also for ensuring guests can fully experience and connect with wildlife in a safe and accessible way.

Van Slyke said financial help from the community will ensure that, “…Wildlife Safari remains a place of wonder, education and adventure”.

Checks can be sent to Wildlife Safari and PO Box 1600 in Winston, 97496. On-line donations can be made by going to: https://wildlifesafari.net/
