COMMISSIONERS ASK CITIZENS TO REPORT MARCH 2025 FLOOD DAMAGE
KQEN News Radio

Douglas County Commissioners are asking for citizens to help the county government by reporting damage sustained in the March 2025 Flood event.
A county release said the Board and Douglas County Emergency Management have been working together with the Oregon Department of Emergency Management, actively focused on damage assessment and helping property owners and businesses accurately assess all damage to help open potential assistance pathways for residents and businesses.
Commissioners say it is especially important for people to report if their homes or properties experienced extensive damage like:
- Completely flooded basements
- Water above 18 inches
- Water above electrical outlets
- Electrical damage such as water-soaked wiring or broken or frayed electrical wires
- Structural damage like loose or buckling floors, carpet, drywall, insulation or roofing
- Damage of any kind to foundations
- Damaged appliances, including heating, air conditioning, water heaters or refrigerators
- Damaged furniture, clothing or bedding
- Growth of mold or mildew
- Damage to septic and well water systems
- Loss of buildings or structures
- Livestock, pet or crop loss
The release said the more information and reporting that comes in, the better chance the county has of getting additional support, funding and resources from the state and federal government.

WALDRONS MOVING TO FORMER ADVANCED AUTO PARTS BUILDING
KQEN News Radio

With new owners having recently taken over, there is another change for Waldron’s Outdoor Sports – a different location.
Co-owner Todd Black told News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN that the store is relocating to the building which until recently housed Advanced Auto Parts on Northeast Stephens Street, just north of Northeast Diamond Lake Boulevard in Roseburg.
Black said the opportunity “came out of nowhere” when the auto parts retailer announced the closure of the Roseburg store. Since Advance shuttered on March 15th, Black and his staff have been preparing to make the move. The new layout is approximately 6,500 square feet and is more wide-open than the current Waldon’s location. Black said this will allow the business to focus more on certain departments in the store, allowing them to become the “go-to” store for those items in Douglas County.
Black said the plan is to keep the current location open while the move is underway. He hopes the business will be fully transitioned to the new building by April 1st.
Black said the new location offers a better parking situation while remaining very visible in a high traffic corridor. Store hours will continue to be weekdays from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with the business open on Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Black said landing at the new location will allow he and his son and co-owner Brody Black to be able to realize some of the added vision they have for Waldron’s Outdoor Sports.
BOAT SAFETY INSPECTION CLINICS BEGIN THIS SATURDAY
KQEN News Radio

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office will host a series of boat inspection clinics beginning this Saturday.
Undersheriff Brad O’Dell said it is a free opportunity to have a boat of any kind inspected to ensure it meets all legal requirements for the upcoming boating season. O’Dell said it is a great opportunity to ensure boaters have all the required safety equipment, learn about lifejacket safety or boating laws, and ask any boating related questions of marine deputies. There are no penalties for failing an inspection at one of the clinics.
The motorized inspection process will include checking for:
- Approved life jackets
- Working fire extinguishers
- Approved Type IV flotation devices
- Working engine blower fans if required
- Assist with proper placement of Oregon registration numbers and registration stickers.
‘O’Dell said deputies can also answer questions about non-motorized boats and the requirements pertaining to them. Any non-motorized boat, including paddle craft, 10 feet or longer are required to have a waterway access permit.
Clinics will be held at:
- Winston Bi-Mart on Saturday
- Roseburg Bi-Mart on Saturday April 5th:
- Sutherlin Bi-Mart on Saturday April 12th:
If a boat passes inspection, a 2025 inspection sticker will be issued.

MERKLEY, RISCH, WYDEN, CRAPO BILL TO BOOST MASS TIMBER INDUSTRY
KQEN News Radio

On Monday, Oregon Senators Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden along with Idaho Senators James Risch and Mike Crapo launched a renewed bipartisan effort to promote the use of mass timber in federal building projects and military construction.
A joint release said the Mass Timber Federal Buildings Act would incentivize the use of mass timber building materials by providing a preference in federal building contracts for mass timber products, giving mass timber companies the ability to compete for federal construction, renovation, or acquisition of public buildings and for military construction.
The bill’s re-introduction coincides with the start of the International Mass Timber Conference – the largest gathering of mass timber experts in the world – in Portland this week.
The legislation is endorsed by a lengthy list of timber and forestry related organizations and by the Oregon Department of Forestry.
The full text of the legislation can be found here.
