ROSEBURG LIKELY SET NEW RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURE ON TUESDAY
KQEN News Radio

It is most likely that Roseburg set a new record high temperature for the date on Tuesday, but there is no official record due to broken equipment at the monitoring site at the Roseburg Regional Airport.
Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Medford told News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN that nearby readings showed highs of 81 and 83 degrees. That would easily eclipse the previous record for March 25th, which was 73 degrees, set in 2016.
Showers and possible thunderstorms are forecast for Roseburg Wednesday with a chance of rain in the forecast every day through early next week.
DOUGLAS COUNTY FLOODING EVENT RESPONSE//RECOVERY CONTINUES
KQEN News Radio

Douglas County government remains actively involved in response and recovery efforts from the March 2025 Flood.
A county release said it is working with local partners including the Douglas Public Health Network, Glide Revitalization, local cities, Cow Creek Tribal Government and local private contractors.
The county’s Emergency Management Department is actively focused on damage assessment and helping homeowners, property owners, businesses and others accurately record and quantify all damage that occurred due to the recent flooding event. The data will be used to hopefully open potential assistance pathways for residents and businesses in the future. This work is being done with the assistance of the Oregon Department of Emergency Management. Businesses, churches, or nonprofit organizations that were impacted by the flooding should report their damage here.
For residents whose home or property was impacted by the flooding, report that damage here.
The American Red Cross emergency shelter remains open in the Community Building at the Douglas County Fairgrounds for residents who have been displaced by the flood. Shelter staff can help with meals, basic supplies, and connecting residents with additional recovery resources.
Douglas County Commissioners worked with the Solid Waste Department to create and implement an emergency action adjustment for flood-related wood waste debris and flood-related refuse. Increased transfer site availability is in place for residents in heavily impacted areas. Learn more on the department’s website: https://www.douglascountyor.gov/396/Solid-Waste

HEALTH ISSUE FORCES SALE OF POPULAR BREW PUB
KQEN News Radio

A health issue is forcing the sale of the popular Lookingglass Brewery in Winston.
Co-owner Mark Nunnelee started the business in 2015 and began brewing officially in October of that year. In 2016 Nunnelee and his wife Lydia leased 1,000 square feet of the building they are currently in on Main Street, near the center of the community. They purchased the entire 4,000 square foot building in 2017. In 2019 the growing brewery took over the entire building and remodeling work began.
For Nunnelee, brewing beer was a second career. He spent over 23 years working for NASA at Edwards Air Force Base in California. As operations manager over a staff of mechanics and technicians, Nunlee’s work included designing parts for test and flight purposes. He was awarded two patents during his tenure. The family moved to Roseburg in 2008 where Nunnelee became the assistant district manager for the Bureau of Land Management. He retired about a year and a-half later after 25 years of civil service.
Nunnelee describes Lookingglass Brewery as having a long list of state-of-the-art equipment in a prime location. He said it is the only brewery between Roseburg and Grants Pass. The sale price is $1.9 million which includes the business, and the commercial property. More information about the business’s property, and equipment and is linked at: https://www.lgbrewpub.com/
ARBOR DAY PHOTO CONTESTS CONTINUES THROUGH APRIL 18TH
KQEN News Radio

Roseburg Parks and Recreation’s Arbor Day Photo Contest is underway.

Roseburg Recreation Coordinator Tracy David said, “Spring is the perfect time to go tree hunting in Roseburg. The trees are blooming, everything’s turning green again, and it should make for some really interesting photos”. David said, “Since Roseburg is a designated Tree City USA, there are many to choose from”.
The top three photos will be announced and showcased on Arbor Day – Friday April 25th on the Roseburg Parks and Recreation Facebook page.

SALVATION ARMY ROSEBURG CORPS SEEKING NEW TRUCK
KQEN News Radio

The Salvation Army Roseburg Corps is seeking help from the community as they hope to purchase a new truck to help with their food pantry through the Drive Away Hunger campaign.
Commanding Officer Captain Edith Dye-Mabie said, “The truck is vital to moving materials and keeping our pantry stocked for the benefit of the community at large, and as an important resource in emergency situations”.
Dye-Mabie said their current truck is on its last leg and can’t be taken on the freeway or out of the immediate area.
Dye-Mabie said the situation hinders their ability to build a donations base for fresh produce, other perishables, and donated food items. Additionally, the truck is integral to the overall functionality of warehouse operations. That includes being able to recycle scrap metal, rag sales, contributions to and from partner agencies, and other outreach in the community like the drive-thru food box event for veterans, held at the Roseburg VA.
The truck the Roseburg Corp is looking for is a newer NRR Isuzu Cabover Diesel 16 ft with an aluminum lift gate.

A Community Tradition at Risk: Help Save Winston's 4th of July Fireworks
The Roseburg Receiver

For 50 years, the skies above Winston and Dillard have lit up every Independence Day with the crackle and glow of fireworks - a celebration of freedom, family, and small-town pride. This year, that beloved tradition is at risk of fading into memory.
The Winston Area Independence Day (WAID) celebration, marking its 50th anniversary, is facing an urgent crisis. The cost to host the fireworks display is $27,500, and as of now, the event organizers are far from reaching that goal. One dedicated community member has carried the weight of organizing this event for years—collecting cans, running auctions, and asking for business support—all to ensure the celebration continues. But the burden has become too heavy to carry alone.
Without immediate financial support and new volunteers, the WAID nonprofit may dissolve, bringing the annual 4th of July event - and the fireworks show that generations have grown up with - to an end.
“It breaks my heart, but my back is breaking over the daily strain to make this all happen for the community,” wrote the organizer in a recent public message. The call is clear: it’s time for the community to come together and carry the torch.
How You Can Help:
If 250 businesses contributed just $100, WAID would nearly meet its fundraising goal. But the responsibility doesn’t lie with businesses alone. If residents and families contribute as well, every donation - no matter how small - brings the event closer to being saved. Whether it's $20, $100, or $200, every contribution makes a difference.
This isn’t just about fireworks. It’s about preserving a moment that brings the community together - neighbors laughing, kids playing with glowsticks, families watching the sky sparkle with color. It’s about showing pride and support for a town that means so much to so many.
Community members are encouraged to consider how they, their families, or their businesses can help. Share this article, talk to the community, and rally support around this important piece of Winston and Dillard’s hometown identity.
Let’s not let the 50th year be the last. Let’s light up the sky together - like this community always has.
