WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 5PM TUESDAY

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 5:00 p.m. Tuesday for mountain areas in parts of southern Oregon.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said snow is forecast with accumulations of 3 to 6 inches with up to 12 inches over higher terrain. Winds will be gusting as high as 35 miles per hour.

The Advisory area includes the southern Oregon Cascades and Siskiyou Mountains. This applies to highways 230 and 138 near Diamond Lake, Highway 62 south of Crater Lake, and Highway 140. In addition, it includes portions of Klamath and Lake counties.

Forecasters said travel could be very difficult. Drivers should slow down and allow extra time to reach their destination. Carry tire chains and be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities.

COUNTY URGING RESIDENTS TO REPORT FLOOD DAMAGE

As recovery continues from the March 2025 Storm Event, Douglas County government continues to urge residents to take part in its damage assessment survey.

A county release said to even begin the process of trying to apply for possible state and federal support or funding, the county must meet a damage value threshold and has to exceed a certain total dollar amount of damage. Homeowners, businesses, churches and non-profits that have not yet completed the survey are asked to do so as soon as possible.

ROGUE CREDIT UNION AND MEMBERS FIRST CREDIT UNION SET TO MERGE

Rogue Credit Union and Members 1st Credit Union have announced their intent to merge.

A release said the move will combine the strength of two respected credit unions to maximize member value and deepen community impact.

Pending approval from the National Credit Union Administration, state regulators in California and Oregon, and the Members 1st membership, the combined $4 billion credit union will serve 236,000 members with a network of 28 full-service branches. The merger, which is expected to be completed in 2026, has been unanimously approved by the boards of directors of both credit unions.

Rogue Credit Union President/CEO Matt Stephenson said, “We are beyond excited to be able to embark on this journey with a trusted partner”. Stephenson said, “This partnership will allow us to provide a greater opportunity to serve more member, offering expanded resources and enhanced services – all while preserving the local, hometown feel that members value”.

Members 1st Credit Union is headquartered in Redding, California, with branches in Redding, Chico and Anderson.

Rogue Credit Union is headquartered in Medford with branches in southern Oregon, eastern Oregon and Idaho. It has three branches in Roseburg, including one at Umpqua Community College.

STATE CONVENTION OF OLD TIME FIDDLERS BEGINS THURSDAY

The annual state convention of the Oregon Old Time Fiddler’s Association begins this Thursday in Winston.

The event will continue through Saturday and is held at the Winston Assembly of God Church on Southeast Darrell Avenue.

With around 200 musicians and fans coming, it will be an ideal place to enjoy shows, see jamming, dancing, workshops, band scrambles, food and more.

Public activities will take place each day from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with evening music from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Workshop offerings include fiddle double stops, youth fiddle, mandolin beyond basic, practical music theory, banjo styles, backing up swing tunes, transposing on the fly and much more.

The Art Gallery at Umpqua Community College presents “Fire and Ice” by Bob Keefer on display through May 6th. The selection of hand-painted photographs explores the strange beauty of climate-driven devastation in the forests of western Oregon and are on display at the Whipple Fine Arts Center weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

A reception and artist talk will take place May 6th from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Admission is free.

Keefer is both a writer and a photographer who graduated from Harvard University in 1975 and spent nearly five decades as a newspaperman before retiring in 2024 to turn his attention to landscape and nature photography. Keefer wrote about art and artists for most of the 30 years he worked at The Register-Guard in Eugene. He served as Arts Editor for Eugene Weekly from 2017 to 2024.
