REPRESENTATIVE OSBORNE RELEASES STATEMENT ON REVENUE FORECAST
KQEN News Radio

State Representative Virgle Osborne has released a statement on the May Revenue Forecast, which was put out by the State of Oregon Department of Administrative Services on Wednesday.
Osborne said, “Democrats are quick to point their fingers to the decision-making of a man over 2,500 miles away but couldn’t be bothered to reflect on their own policies right here in their own state”. Osborne said, “Anti-business regulations and policies paraded as ‘pro-consumer’ have done serious harm to the business community – and in turn, everyday Oregonians”.
Osborne said, “Is it really a surprise that Oregon businesses are being recruited to set up shop in other states? Or how the fact that a new report revealed that more Oregonians are having to take on a second job to make ends meet?”.
Osborne concluded, “Today, reality has set in. We cannot afford the status quo”.

OREGON’S UNEMPLOYMENT RATE WAS 4.7 PERCENT IN APRIL
KQEN News Radio

Oregon’s unemployment rate was 4.7 percent in April and 4.6 percent in March, after rising gradually over the past year from 4.1 percent in April 2024.
An Oregon Employment Department release said Oregon’s 4.7 percent unemployment rate was 1.1 percentage points higher than the recent low of 3.6 percent during spring 2023. The U.S. unemployment rate was 4.2 percent in both March and April.
State Employment Economist Gail Krumenauer said in April, Oregon’s seasonally adjusted nonfarm payroll employment rose by 1,200 jobs, following a revised gain of 6,200 jobs in March. Krumenauer said April’s gains were largest in leisure and hospitality, which rose by 3,300 jobs, and professional and business services which gained 900 jobs. Declines were largest in transportation, warehousing and utilities which lost 1,300 jobs and the other services category which shed 600 jobs. None of the other major industries had a change of more than 400 jobs.
OED said leisure and hospitality had a larger-than-expected increase in seasonal hiring in April, adding 3,300 jobs. The April jobs total of 212,700 was 5,600 jobs or 2.7 percent above its average during the prior two years. Its component industry of arts, entertainment and recreation added 500 jobs in April, to reach a record high of 30,200. During the past two years, it has expanded consistently.
Krumenauer said meanwhile, the other component industry – accommodation and food services – is estimated to have grown rapidly this year, adding 2,800 jobs in April and 5,000 jobs so far this year, following slight declines over the past two years.
The release said construction employment slipped by 200 jobs in April to a total of 114,600 jobs, continuing a gradual downward trend. Since reaching a peak of 119,000 jobs in June 2023, construction has shed 4,400 jobs or 3.7 percent.
Transportation, warehousing and utilities cut 1,300 jobs in April, following a gradual gain of nearly the same amount during the prior 12 months. Most of the April loss occurred in couriers and messengers which cut 800 jobs in April and shed 1,200 jobs since April 2024.

WILDLIFE SAFARI ANNOUNCES THE ARRIVAL OF FOUR NEW CHEETAH CUBS
KQEN News Radio

Wildlife Safari has announced the arrival of four new cheetah cubs.
Marketing Coordinator Ali Shaver said three males and one female were born on April 12th to first time mom, Bam-Bam. Shaver said that Bam was also born at Wildlife Safari, making her one of the most genetically valuable cheetahs in the Species Survival Plan in North America. The SSP is a cooperative breeding program with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums aimed at ensuring the genetic diversity and long-term sustainability of endangered species like cheetahs.
Shaver said Bam gave birth to four healthy cubs following a smooth and successful labor. Each cub arrived with a strong, healthy weight, with no runts in the litter, which is an encouraging sign of their vitality and well-being. Shaver said Bam has been an attentive and nurturing mother, spending the majority of her time in the den nursing and grooming her newborns.
The release said the birth is not only a critical step for Bam-Bam but also contributes to the broader efforts of cheetah conservation, as her cubs represent an important genetic lineage. Shaver said Wildlife Safari is dedicated to advancing the care, study and preservation of cheetahs.
Bam-Bam and her cubs are now in the Cheetah Loop at Wildlife Safari. The game park in Winston is currently open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

WOMEN’S GOLF NIGHT’S START JUNE 18TH
KQEN News Radio

Woman can get back into the swing of things when Roseburg Parks and Recreation offers “Just for Fun” golf on Wednesday nights this summer – with mini-lessons offered for the first time this year.
A city release said regular participants will note that the recreational program is changing from Monday to Wednesday nights. Starting Wednesday, June 18th, Parks and Rec offers women five chances to play golf and make new friends every other week at Stewart Park Golf Course on Northwest Stewart Parkway.
This year, a golf course pro will offer group mini lessons at 5:00 p.m. each night with game play beginning at 5:30 p.m. No pre-registration is needed. Check in at the golf course by 4:50 p.m. to take the mini-lesson and by 5:20 p.m. to just play golf.
Roseburg Parks and Recreation Coordinator Tracy David said, “You must bring your own clubs, but you don’t have to be an expert golfer to come enjoy a round of golf”.
The release said the recreational program will mix ladies together in different groups each week so there are some opportunities to meet and play with others at the nine-hole golf course. Participants can be placed in a group or bring a foursome of women who golf together.
A $20 per night fee covers a greens fee, recreation fee, cart rental and min-lesson.

The Roseburg Receiver Updates
- We are now at 14,883 members!!! Thank you all so much for being here!
- The Roseburg Receiver Live YouTube stream will transition to a single, continuous livestream starting June 1st.
Currently, a new live feed is created every 12 hours, which can be confusing for viewers. Our goal is to provide one consistent link for uninterrupted access. Since radio transmissions are already archived separately, recording each YouTube segment is unnecessary and creates redundant files.
