TWO WEEKS WITH MOSTLY SUNNY CONDITIONS FOR THE UMPQUA VALLEY

KQEN News Radio

The Umpqua Valley is slated to experience mostly sunny conditions for the next two weeks.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Medford told News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN that not much active weather is expected in the near future. Forecasters said there may be occasional periods of cloud cover but little chance for precipitation.

Tuesday’s high is forecast to be below normal, with the next few days near the normal high temperature for this week in May, which is 72 degrees. Conditions will warm up by the weekend, with highs at or near 80 degrees for Saturday through Memorial Day on Monday.

The high temperature on Monday was 69 degrees at the Roseburg Regional Airport.

LESS THAN 12 PERCENT OF BALLOTS IN WITH TUESDAY BEING ELECTION DAY

KQEN News Radio

Less than 12 percent of ballots have come in for the 2025 Douglas County May Special Districts Election.

County Clerk Daniel Loomis said 11.54 percent, or 10,105 ballots, have been received as of Monday afternoon. Loomis said that lags 5.34 percent behind the participation rate for the same point in the last special districts election in 2023.

Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. is the Election deadline. Those who take their ballot to the Post Office need to ask staff to stamp their envelope with a hand cancellation stamp. A ballot with a postmark after May 20, will not be counted. Voters can use one of the 15 official ballot drop sites until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday night and be assured that their ballot will be received and counted.

ROSEBURG CITY COUNCIL ADJUSTS FEES

KQEN News Radio

Roseburg city fees for drinking water, storm drainage service and other services will increase on Tuesday, July 1st to reflect increased costs to provide those services.

A city release said the Roseburg City Council recently approved a yearly update to general fees and water-related fees and established a new $100 appeal fee for decisions made by the Roseburg Public Library director or staff. Annual fee adjustments are typically made in May.

Notable fee increases will raise the charge to reconnect water service from $20 to $40 and to rent library meeting rooms for everyone but veteran organizations, Douglas Education Service District or Friends of the Roseburg Public Library.

Library rentals will increase from $25 to $50 per use for the Deer Creek, South Umpqua and Ford Family rooms when the library or Douglas ESD is open to the public. Renting the Ford Family Room when the library and ESD are closed will increase from $75 to $150 per use. Renting multipurpose rooms #1 or #2 remains $25. A study room can be used for two hours at no charge on a drop-in basis.

The release said while many fees stayed the same, certain fees will increase 1.85 percent to 2.2 percent based on the March Construction Cost Index or CPI-U West index to reflect the increased costs to provide those services.

REEDSPORT ANNOUNCES MAIN STREET TRADITION

KQEN News Radio

The City of Reedsport has announced that Main Street Director Rosa Solano is leaving the program.

A release said Solano’s last day with the program is May 30th, but she will continue to work for the city on a part-time basis with tourism-related projects.

Solano said, “I would like to thank our Board, volunteers, and community for their support throughout my time with Main Street. Their time and commitment are truly appreciated, and we could not have accomplished as much as we did, without them”.

The Reedsport Main Street Program is a volunteer-driven program managed by the City of Reedsport through the Urban Renewal District. The program receives training and technical assistance from Oregon Main Street. The Reedsport Main Street focuses on downtown revitalization by assisting with grant opportunities to commercial property owners, coordinating events and projects to help increase community and visitor participation along with fundraising to help support the projects.

Solano said the program has received over $640,000 in Main Street Revitalization Grant dollars which has helped property owners with 18 projects to help preserve historic properties in downtown Reedsport since 2017. The grant reimburses up to 70 percent of the cost of the project while the property owner covers 30 percent.

The Urban Renewal District funds the Business Improvement Grant which provides commercial property owners with a 50/50 grant match up to $2,500. The district was expanded in July of 2024 by the City of Reedsport and the grant is now available to commercial property owners in the downtown, midtown and uptown areas. From 2015 through 2025, the program assisted with over $115,000 in business improvements.

The Roseburg Receiver Updates

  • We are now at 14,926 members!!! Thank you all so much for being here!
  • The Roseburg Receiver Live YouTube stream will transition to a single, continuous livestream starting June 1st.
Currently, a new live feed is created every 12 hours, which can be confusing for viewers. Our goal is to provide one consistent link for uninterrupted access. Since radio transmissions are already archived separately, recording each YouTube segment is unnecessary and creates redundant files.
