COMMISSIONERS CELEBRATE SEARCH & RESCUE WEEK

KQEN News Radio

Douglas County Commissioners celebrated National Search & Rescue Week by issuing a proclamation at their weekly business meeting on Wednesday.

A county release said the proclamation recognizes the incredible dedication of volunteer rescuers and rescue personnel in Douglas County and across the nation.

Commissioner Tim Freeman provided a background on the Douglas County Search and Rescue program. Commissioner Chris Boice then read the National Search & Rescue Week proclamation followed by Commissioner Tom Kress who presented certificates to Sheriff John Hanlin, Undersheriff Brad O’Dell, SAR Deputy Larissa May and over a dozen Search & Rescue volunteers.

The release said volunteers within the county SAR operate under the direction of the Sheriff’s Office, with the support of the Board of Commissioners. REPUBLICANS ANNOUNCE LEGISLATION THAT REDIRECTS FUNDING

KQEN News Radio

On Wednesday, House and Senate Republicans announced legislation that they say will stabilize the Oregon Department of Transportation without raising taxes, while preserving operations and maintenance that serves core functions, such as plowing roads and filling potholes.

A release from the House Republican Caucus and the Senate Republican Caucus said the comprehensive proposal makes statutory changes to redirect money outside core mission back to paying for priority needs. The GOP claims the proposal services as an interim plan to rebuild Oregonians’ trust in ODOT.

House Republican Leader Christine Drazan said, “We reject the premise that if we don’t make life more expensive for Oregonians, we can’t fix potholes, plow the snow or keep rural roads safe”. Drazan said, “By reprioritizing funding, focusing on accountability, modernizing administration, and streamlining regulations, this legislation holds ODOT accountable to core mission and protects families from tax increases”.

Senator Daniel Bonham said, “Oregonians are tired of being told the fix is always paying more”. Bonham said, “Our plan puts common sense first – keeping roads clear, potholes filled, and the pressure off taxpayers. It’s about rebuilding trust and demanding accountability before asking families to dig deeper into their pockets.”

The release said the plan includes:

  • Redirecting over $146 million of current spending on climate initiatives and $38 million in funding for passenger rail service
  • Redirecting half of the payroll tax to provide truckers with a tax credit on future tax bills, thereby repaying them for years of unconstitutional overpayments
  • Capping Oregon’s hidden gas tax, (Clean Fuels Program) at the current level and returning the program to its original intent
  • Creating the Major Projects Office to manage projects costing more than $99 million
  • Creating a publicly accessible dashboard displaying key performance indicators for major projects
  • Establishing independent Dispute Review Boards for projects exceeding $5 million to resolve conflicts between ODOT and the contractor ensuring smooth delivery, on-time completion, and budget adherence.

FIR GROVE SPLASH PAD OPENS SATURDAY

KQEN News Radio

The Fir Grove Splash Pad in Roseburg will open this Saturday.

A city release said Roseburg Parks and Recreation staff are pressure-washing the splash pad deck, inspecting the ultraviolet water treatment system that kills any algae or bacteria left over after filtration, cleaning and replacing water-feature spray nozzles, and cleaning and filling the system’s 4,000-gallon water tank and its valves.

The splash pad is a free seasonal offering open daily each summer from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. Hours of operations are from 10:00 a.m. to dusk. The splash pad is in Fir Grove Park, just off West Harvard Avenue behind the Umpqua Valley Arts Center.

Parks and Recreation Program Coordinator Tracy David said, “We’re always excited to open the Splash Pad each year”. David said, “We encourage families to take advantage of this popular park feature as a low-cost way to enjoy summer in our parks”.

The release said shade is limited, so Parks and Recreation staff encourage residents to be prepared with sunscreen.

HAVE AN EVENT? TELL US AND WE WILL POST IT FOR FREE!

The Roseburg Receiver Updates

  • We are now at 14,932 members!!! Thank you all so much for being here!
  • The Roseburg Receiver Live YouTube stream will transition to a single, continuous livestream starting June 1st.
Currently, a new live feed is created every 12 hours, which can be confusing for viewers. Our goal is to provide one consistent link for uninterrupted access. Since radio transmissions are already archived separately, recording each YouTube segment is unnecessary and creates redundant files.
