SLIGHTLY ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES FOR MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND
KQEN News Radio

The Umpqua Valley will experience slightly above normal temperatures for the Memorial Day Weekend.
Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Medford told News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN that the region is set to see afternoon high temperatures at or near 80 degrees on Saturday and Sunday. The normal high temperature for this week in May is around 73 degrees. Forecasters said there is a slight chance of showers Sunday night into Monday morning. Warmer temperatures are expected for the first part of next week. Wednesday is forecast to be the hottest day of the week, with a high of 87 degrees expected.
The mercury reached 63 degrees on Thursday at the Roseburg Regional Airport.
GOP ACCUSE DEMOCRATS OF USING WILDFIRE MAP REPEAL AS A BARGAINING CHIP
KQEN News Radio

Senate Republicans are accusing House Democrats of using the wildfire map repeal as a bargaining chip to steal $1 Billion of kicker funds from taxpayers.
A release from the Oregon Senate Republican Caucus said after Senate Bill 83 passed the Oregon Senate unanimously on April 22nd, with strong bipartisan support and praise from Senate Democrats for responding to public outcry over the flawed wildfire hazard map, House Democrats moved to block its progress on Thursday – sending it to the House Committee on Rules instead of advancing it to the House floor for a vote.
Senator Noah Robinson of Cave Junction said, “Senate Bill 83 is an urgent bill the House needs to pass immediately”. Robinson said, “It is unacceptable to use it as a negotiating item”.
Senator David Brock Smith of Port Orford said, “House Democrats are now doing the exact opposite of what their Senate colleagues claimed to support just months ago”. Brock Smith said, “This is a stunning reversal and a clear betrayal of the bipartisan effort to repeal these harmful wildfire maps. Holding rural Oregonians hostage over votes for future wildfire funding is not only obscene, but disgraceful”. Brock Smith said, “Put the damn bill on the floor for a vote”.
The release claims that rather than allowing a floor vote on a bill that has already earned overwhelming support, including from Senate Democrats, House Democrats – under pressure from Governor Tina Kotek and Speaker Julie Fahey – are delaying SB 83 in an effort to extort Republican votes for their latest attempt to raid over $1 billion from the Oregon taxpayers’ kicker refund.
Senate Republican Leader Daniel Bonham of The Dalles, said “Oregonians were promised relief. Now they’re being told that relief is contingent on agreeing to a massive tax grab”. Bonham said, “It’s political gamesmanship at its worst – and its coming at the expense of rural property owners and families across the state”.
The release said Senate Republicans urge House leadership to bring SB 83 to the House Floor for an immediate vote.

DOUGLAS CARES TO HOST A COMMUNITY OPEN HOUSE SATURDAY MAY 30TH
KQEN News Radio

Douglas CARES will host a community open house on Saturday May 30th.
The non-profit organization has been providing a safe space for children in Douglas County enduring abuse and neglect, to share their stories for 30 years. Executive Director Sarah Wickersham said, “Douglas CARES is not just a child advocacy center; we’re a pillar of support for children and families impacted by abuse”.
Wickersham said CARES would like to show the community who they are and what services they provide for Douglas County children to help them begin the healing journey from trauma to a happy, healthy childhood.
At the open house, community members can come tour the new space, learn about the organization, ways to support the work it does, and volunteer opportunities.
Wickersham said, “We aim to inspire and educate families to recognize signs of abuse and how to create a safe, violence-free environment at home”. Wickersham said, “We believe that spreading awareness is the first step toward prevention, and we’d love for everyone to be part of this important cause”.
CARES has moved into its new building, built from the ground up for their specific use. It is located at 1939 Northeast Diamond Lake Boulevard in Roseburg. The open house on Saturday, May 30th will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Tours and refreshments will be provided.
FIRE SEASON BEGINS JUNE 1ST IN JACKSON/JOSEPHINE COUNTIES
KQEN News Radio

The Oregon Department of Forestry Southwest Oregon District will officially declare the start of fire season on Sunday, June 1st.
Public Information Officer Natalie Weber said the fire danger will be Low and the Industrial Fire Precaution Level will be at 1. Weber said lands affected by the declaration include 1.8 million acres of state, private, county, city and Bureau of Land Management forestlands in Jackson and Josephine counties.
Weber said consistent snow and rain across southern Oregon kept pre-season fires to a minimum until late April, when temperatures began to slowly heat up. Despite the wet spring, recent sunny and windy conditions have supported a gradual drying of vegetation. With those changes, the ODF Southwest Oregon District has responded to 12 fires for a total of 22 acres burned. As conditions continue to trend toward summer-like weather, fire risk and behavior will naturally increase.

The Roseburg Receiver Updates
- We are now at 14,932 members!!! Thank you all so much for being here!
- The Roseburg Receiver Live YouTube stream will transition to a single, continuous livestream starting June 1st.
Currently, a new live feed is created every 12 hours, which can be confusing for viewers. Our goal is to provide one consistent link for uninterrupted access. Since radio transmissions are already archived separately, recording each YouTube segment is unnecessary and creates redundant files.
