OEM URGES RESIDENTS TO PREPARE FOR UPCOMING WILDFIRE SEASON

KQEN News Radio

As Wildfire Awareness Month comes to a close, the Oregon Department of Emergency Management is urging residents to take action now to prepare for the upcoming wildfire season by being ready to evacuate.

An OEM release said last year’s wildfire season was the most destructive in Oregon’s recorded history. The 2025 season is shaping up to be just as formattable. Wildfires can spread rapidly, threatening lives, homes and communities, so it’s vital that Oregonians be prepared ahead of time to receive timely notices and to evacuate if asked.

Sign up for emergency alerts to receive evacuation notifications. Visit: https://oralert.gov/ to find the local alert system. Check phone settings to ensure that wireless emergency alerts are enabled.

Create a wildfire evacuation plan. It should include a list of emergency contacts, a safe meeting place in case family members get separated, multiple evacuation routes from home, work and school, and transportation arrangements including for pets and livestock. Make sure that family, friends and neighbors understand the plan.

Assemble a wildfire go-kit. It should include:

  • Food and water
  • Medications and medical supplies
  • Flashlights and phone chargers
  • Extra clothing and personal items.
  • Copies of vital documents and prescriptions

Be familiar with evacuation levels and understand what they mean.

Additional wildfire preparedness resources are available at: https://wildfire.oregon.gov/

CITY OF ROSEBURG MAINTAINS HIGH CREDIT RATING

KQEN News Radio

The City of Roseburg has maintained its high credit rating with a leading bond credit rating business.

A city release said on May 23rd, Moody’s Investors Service, a leading provider of credit ratings for public finance issuers, issued its annual comment on the City of Roseburg and confirmed its credit rating for the city as an Aa3 with no outlook.

Finance Director Ron Harker said an “Aa” rating signifies that obligations of the entity – in this case, the city, are judged to be of high quality and are subject to very low credit risk.

Harker said, “Maintaining an Aa3 with No Outlook with Moody’s is something to be proud of”. Harker said, “The big win here is that we have been able to maintain an Aa3 rating – High Quality – during uncertain times”.

Harker said credit rating agencies such as Moody’s are essentially assessing the potential risk of default that a bond issuer will be unable to pay interest or principal on the debt when they issue their rating scores. Harker said investor, portfolio managers and bankers are the primary users of credit rating scores.

The release said with an Aa3 rating the city is in full compliance with its goals and policies. Harker said the city has been able to maintain an Aa3 credit rating for a number of years now.

KQEN News Radio

Roseburg Parks and Recreation begins “Yoga in the Park” in July.

A city release said along with Body Balance Yoga Center Director Alli Spooner and other instructors, free yoga sessions will be held in a tranquil setting in Stewart Park. The “Yoga in the Park” series began in 2012.

Parks and Recreation Coordinator Tracy David said the free classes are suited to all levels of yoga practice. David said, “Even if you have never been to another yoga class like me, it’s easy to follow along”. David said, “It’s a very laid-back vibe with a group of about 30 people, both men and women, spread out in the grass”.

Attendees should arrive a few minutes early to sign in and be ready to start at 10:00 a.m. Bring a yoga mat and comfortable clothing. Organizers recommend not eating or drinking for at least one hour before class.

Those who arrive early will be entered into a Thrive Umpqua-sponsored prize drawing held after each class.

The Roseburg Receiver Updates

  • We now have 14,995 members!!! Thank you all so much for being here!
  • The Roseburg Receiver Live YouTube stream will transition to a single, continuous livestream starting June 1st.
Currently, a new live feed is created every 12 hours, which can be confusing for viewers. Our goal is to provide one consistent link for uninterrupted access. Since radio transmissions are already archived separately, recording each YouTube segment is unnecessary and creates redundant files.
