ROSEBURG PUBLIC LIBRARY TO HOST OAKLAND AUTHOR
KQEN News Radio

Roseburg Public Library invites the community to an evening with local author Betty Tamm at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 5th.
A city release said Tamm will share her book, “Sisters in Siam: Two Sisters Journey Through Life on the Fringe of the Famous. The book is a retrospective about Tamm’s grandmother and her great aunt who started their careers in Siam and knew the King and members of the royal family. Tamm’s grandmother, Phylis, was a children’s book author, and Tamm’s great-aunt, Margaret, was an artist and illustrator.
Margaret had a successful career in New York 100 years ago, when it was difficult to be accepted as a professional woman. The University of Oregon Special Collections and University Archives preserved boxes of her works and letters.
Tamm, who is the retired CEO of NeighborWorks Umpqua and the current owner of Triple Oak Wine Vault in Oakland, will display original works and other mementoes, and sell and sign copies of her book.
The free program will be held at the library in the 1400 block of Northeast Diamond Lake Boulevard. For more information, contact Roseburg Public Library staff at 492-7050 or email: library@roseburgburgor.gov

Beloved Longtime Voice of Douglas County Retires After 34 Years of Service
The Roseburg Receiver

After more than three decades of devoted service, one of the most familiar voices in Douglas County has gone quiet for the last time.
Dawna Zarbano, a long-time emergency dispatcher, retired today after 34 years of service, 22 of those years spent serving Douglas County. Her calm, steady voice became a trusted presence not just for first responders, but for countless residents who tuned in during emergencies - or simply listened in out of habit, curiosity, or comfort. Whether it was chaos unfolding or a quiet shift, Dawna’s voice was a constant on both law enforcement and fire frequencies, woven into the daily lives of the community.
Her final shift ended with a touching farewell over the Law 1 radio channel:
“30 to all units, standby for a message. Continuing… My day is finally here. Bittersweet for sure, but after 34 years combined and the last 22 with Douglas County, I am retiring and hanging up my headset for the last time to enjoy family, relaxation, and travel. It’s been my pleasure to serve the citizens of Douglas County and those passing through. I am blessed to have worked alongside all of you. You are the very best. We shared lots of laughs, chaos, intensity, and even some tears through the years. Keep fighting the good fight and, most importantly, take care of yourself and take care of each other.”
Listen here:
Her words captured the heart of a career spent behind the scenes but never out of mind. Dawna’s voice was more than a lifeline to first responders - it was a source of comfort, strength, and familiarity to the entire community.
As she steps into retirement, Dawna leaves behind a legacy of dedication, professionalism, and compassion. Her presence on the radio will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
Congratulations on your retirement, Dawna!

The Roseburg Receiver Updates
- We now have 15,003 members!!! Thank you all so much for being here!
- The Roseburg Receiver Live YouTube stream will transition to a single, continuous livestream starting June 1st.
Currently, a new live feed is created every 12 hours, which can be confusing for viewers. Our goal is to provide one consistent link for uninterrupted access. Since radio transmissions are already archived separately, recording each YouTube segment is unnecessary and creates redundant files.
