ROSEBURG FORECAST TO SEE HOTTEST DAY OF 2025 ON FRIDAY
KQEN News Radio

Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Medford told News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN that the mercury is expected to reach near 90 degrees at the Roseburg Regional Airport. Forecasters said dry, stable, very warm conditions with highs of 15 to 20 degrees above normal are expected across the region.
The hottest days of the year so far have been last Monday and May 1st, when Roseburg’s high temperature hit 86 degrees. Highs are forecast to drop several degrees on Saturday, and a few degrees more on Sunday.
DCSO DETAILS FATAL CRASH, EFFORT TO RECOVER BODIES
KQEN News Radio

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has released more information regarding a crash that claimed the lives of a Drain couple last weekend, and the efforts of Search and Rescue personnel to recover their bodies from a hillside in the Tyee area.
Douglas County 911 Operations Manager Heather Gray said the rollover motor vehicle accident took place on Weyerhaeuser property west of Tyee sometime in the early morning hours of Saturday, May 24th. Gray said DCSO Search and Rescue volunteers assisted in recovering the remains on Sunday morning.
911 dispatchers were alerted to the accident at about 5:00 p.m. on Saturday via satellite assisted Text-to-911. The texter, who had been scouting prior to bear hunting season, said two people had been spotted from a distance on a very steep embankment in the Brush Creek area, and they both appeared deceased.

Deputies responded to the area and located marks in the roadway consistent with a westbound vehicle leaving BLM Road 24-8-35 1 and rolling down the hill.
Gray said using ropes, deputies traversed the embankment and located the bodies of 55-year-old Anthony Forbes and 50-year-old Mandi Forbes, about 215 feet down from the roadway.
Their vehicle, a 1986 Suzuki Samuri, continued to roll past where the Forbes’ had been ejected. It eventually came to rest, heavily damaged, about 500 feet from the roadway in a small ravine.
Search and Rescue volunteers and members of Central Douglas Fire and Rescue’s Steep Angle Rescue Team were assembled Saturday, but determined they were unable to recover the bodies until daylight. Several personnel remained in the area overnight and the teams regrouped Sunday morning.
Gray said that according to responders, the slope angle in this area was between 27 and 50 degrees. This was a previously clearcut area, had low vegetation growth and very thick brush. Nearly 15 responders worked together to complete the recovery.
Evidence on the scene showed the Forbes’ had a permit to be on the Weyerhaeuser property and that alcohol may have been a factor in the crash. Seatbelts were not used. Deputies believe the crash occurred several hours before the bodies were discovered.
MOP UP CONTINUES ON DOE HOLLOW FIRE
KQEN News Radio

Mop up continues on the 47-acre Doe Hollow Fire in the Days Creek area.
Douglas Forest Protective Association Acting Public Information Officer Nic Freeman said while it was hoped to have mop up complete by Monday, the number of stumps that had burned and the amount of digging needed has slowed the progress. Freeman said significant work has taken place.
2 two-man crews, 6 DFPA engines and the DFPA water tender remain assigned to the fire. Freeman now estimates that mop up will be complete by the end of this weekend.
The Doe Hollow Fire was first reported on the evening of May 22nd.
LAST ROSEBURG RITE AID TO CLOSE
KQEN News Radio

It’s now official – the Roseburg Rite Aid store on Northwest Garden Valley Boulevard is closing soon.
After an announcement earlier this month that Rite Aid Corporation and its subsidiaries had begun voluntary Chapter 11 proceedings in U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey, the move is not a surprise. While saying they were in active discussions with multiple potential buyers, the company said in early May that any store operations or assets that are not sold through the process will no longer be owned or operated by Rite Aid. Over the next few months, all Rite Aid distribution centers are slated to close, with all stores either shuttering or being operated by a new owner.
Rite Aid recently announced that 200 more stores would be closing soon, including 17 in Oregon. In the past few days, the Roseburg location was added to the list. Rite Aid had two locations in Roseburg for years, closing the downtown store in June of 2023.
The News Review reports that the store’s pharmacy will close after June 4th, while the last day the store will be open in general is June 10th. In Roseburg, Rite Aid will transfer its pharmacy services to the nearby Fred Meyer, also on Northwest Garden Valley Boulevard. Fred Meyer Pharmacy Manager Stuart Richards told The News Review that his store is expecting to gain roughly 1,000 new customers and will also be taking on the pharmacy staff leaving Rite Aid.
After this Rite Aid closes, Roseburg may be one of the few towns in the U.S.to have three vacant former Rite Aid locations. The first Rite Aid in Roseburg, in the 400 block of Southeast Jackson Street, closed twenty years ago when the newer downtown store was opened two blocks away, and has been empty ever since. It had originally been operated as a Payless Drug Store, and was built in the 1960s, following the 1959 Roseburg Blast, which destroyed a number of buildings in the downtown area. The Garden Valley Boulevard store was added after the construction of what was originally known as the Roseburg Valley Mall, in 1981.

KQEN News Radio

U.S. Representative Val Hoyle has announced that Teakki Rain Legg from Florence, is Oregon’s Fourth District’s winner of the 2025 Congressional Art Competition.
A release from Hoyle’s office said winners have their artwork featured in the U.S. Capitol for one year and receive a round-trip ticket to Washington for themselves and a guardian to be recognized at an annual awards ceremony when the art is displayed.
Hoyle said, “Teakki Legg’s artistry and attention to detail stood out in his entry into this year’s competition, “Shining Light”, which depicts the rugged beauty of the Oregon Coast”. The Roseburg Receiver Updates
- We now have 15,005 members!!! Thank you all so much for being here!
- The Roseburg Receiver Live YouTube stream will transition to a single, continuous livestream starting June 1st.
Currently, a new live feed is created every 12 hours, which can be confusing for viewers. Our goal is to provide one consistent link for uninterrupted access. Since radio transmissions are already archived separately, recording each YouTube segment is unnecessary and creates redundant files.
