MISSING LOOKINGGLASS MAN LOCATED BY SEARCH AND RESCUE TUESDAY EVENING

KQEN News Radio

A missing Lookingglass man was located by Search and Rescue volunteers on Tuesday evening.

An update from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said 86-year-old Herb Parish was reported missing at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday. Undersheriff Brad O’Dell said Parish, who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease and is not supposed to be driving, had last been seen at his residence at 10:15 a.m. O’Dell said prior to being reported missing, Parish was pulled over in a traffic stop at 11:45 a.m. A bulletin reporting the man missing was released by DCSO shortly before 5:00 p.m. He was believed to be driving a 2018 Toyota Tacoma.

O’Dell said Parish was located at the end of Nonpareil Road, approximately 10 miles from the end of the pavement. He was initially under the care of SAR volunteers and reported to be uninjured and in stable condition. Parish was later evaluated by Emergency Medical Service personnel before being re-united with his family.

O’Dell said DCSO would like to thank the community for their assistance in the investigation. DCSO was assisted by Search and Rescue, Sutherlin Police Department and Fair Oaks Fire Department.

DEL TACO HOPES TO OPEN BY THE END OF MAY

KQEN News Radio

Del Taco hopes to open its new store on Northwest Stewart Parkway in Roseburg by the end of this month.

Del Taco/Cactus Enterprises Director of Operations Erick Marsh told News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN that everything with construction is just about wrapped up. Marsh said a contractor is finishing a few things this week and he hopes to get the keys to building on Monday.

Marsh said the building looks even better than he imagined it would be. Once he gets the keys, Marsh will spend a few days doing clean up before starting training for his new employee team. Training will take approximately two weeks. Del Taco plans to have around 50 employees by the opening date. Marsh said the management team is in place and they are already training at other locations, along with some crew members that have begun training as well. Marsh has about 30 confirmed employees so is still doing some more hiring. Applicants can apply at www.deltaco.com/careers.

Marsh said he doesn’t plan to have a big grand opening celebration, since Del Taco has been here before. The previous store, at the same location as the new one, was destroyed by a fire in July of 2022. Marsh said managers at some of his other stores have been getting quite a few calls asking about an opening date, so he knows that people are excited about the Roseburg store opening soon. Cactus Enterprises also operate Del Taco locations in Salem, Albany, Medford, Klamath Falls and Bend.

OREGON MAIN STREET ADDS SUTHERLIN AS NEW REGIONAL HUB

KQEN News Radio

Oregon Main Street has just designated the Sutherlin Chamber of Commerce as the new Sutherlin Area Regional Main Street Hub of the Umpqua.

A release from the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department said Sutherlin joins the two initial pilot Rural Regional Main Street hubs of the Frontier Chamber of Commerce and the Wallowa County Chamber of Commerce, initially housed with the Northeast Oregon Economic Development District.

Sutherlin Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jessica Cannon said, “This opportunity is deeply needed, and this program is powerfully designed to uplift rural communities like ours, strengthening main streets through revitalization, development, networking and real-time support”. Cannon said, “We are filled with pride and ready to hit the ground running”.

The Sutherlin Area Regional Main Street Hub of the Umpqua will initially include Sutherlin, Winston and Oakland.

The release said OMS created the RRMS tier to provide a pathway for rural communities to better connect with the services and support offered by OMS in a structured way that helps these rural communities build and sustain momentum. One of the key features of the RRMS tier is to allow maximum flexibility in how the hubs want to organize to take into account the differences in each region.

The OMS Network provides training and technical services to Oregon communities desiring to strengthen, preserve and enhance their historic downtown and traditional commercial neighborhood districts. Learn more about Oregon Main Street at www.oregonmainstreet.org.

ROSEBURG LIBRARY TO HOST OREGON BLACK HISTORY PROGRAM

KQEN News Radio

Roseburg Public Library invites the community to “Oregon’s Black History: 450 Years in 45 minutes”.

The program will be presented by staff from Oregon Black Pioneers at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 15th.

A city release said people of African descent have lived and worked in Oregon since before the founding of the earliest English-speaking settlements in the Americas. Staff from the Oregon Black Pioneers will highlight key individuals and events that characterize Oregon’s unique and centuries-old Black history.

The free program, which will be held at the library on Northeast Diamond Lake Boulevard, is presented in conjunction with the Letitia Carson exhibit currently on display.

“Letitia Carson: An Enduring Spirit of Hope and Freedom” highlights the history of a Black Oregon homesteader, farmer, and matriarch living in the time of Oregon’s exclusion laws. The exhibit tells the story of Carson’s transition from enslaved woman to landowner and explains how her persistence and grit carved pathways for Black and Indigenous Oregonians today.

The Letitia Carson exhibit is on display through Friday, May 30th. Hours are 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursdays, and 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
