ROSEBURG MAN ARRESTED FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER
KQEN News Radio

A Roseburg man has been charged with attempted murder.
A release from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office issued Wednesday, said on Sunday, November 9th, deputies responded to the 1300 block of Gazley Road in Myrtle Creek after a caller said there had been an assault. The victim of the assault had been transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center earlier in the night after it was reported that the man may have fallen, but it was determined that the injuries did not match the reported fall.
Due to the severity of the injuries, DCSO detectives responded to the scene. During the course of the investigation, detectives determined that the victim, 73-year-old Stephen Balliew of Myrtle Creek, was severely injured. This was after 21-year-old Health Lethlean of Roseburg, broke into Balliew’s residence and assaulted him with an object. Lethlean had fled the scene following the assault.
On Friday, November 14th, Lethlean was contacted and arrested in Roseburg. He was charged with second-degree attempted murder and several other charges. Bail was set at $1 million.
Detectives are continuing the investigation.
PACIFICORP REACHES SETTLEMENT WITH 1,434 PLAINTIFFS: LABOR DAY FIRES
KQEN News Radio

PacifiCorp has announced that it has reached a $150 million settlement with 1,434 plaintiffs associated with the Labor Day 2020 fires.
A Pacific Power release said, since 2020, the company has settled nearly 4,200 wildfire claims for $1.6 billion, which represents 70 percent of the individual claims in Oregon and California. The vast majority of the remaining claims are a part of the James class action litigation.
Pacific Power President Ryan Flynn said, “We are doing the responsible thing, and we are gratified to resolve these claims to provide plaintiffs with some closure to move on”. Flynn said, “The process that led to this settlement represents the fairest and most efficient way to resolve wildfire litigation. Class action litigation is costly, complex, takes several years to run its course and is a barrier to reasonable outcomes”
The release said PacificCorp remains willing to settle all outstanding reasonable claims related to the Echo Mountain, 242 and South Obenchain fires. Nearly 20 percent of plaintiffs in the James class action have now settled with PacifiCorp.
Due to the compelling findings in the Oregon Department of Forestry report that concluded PacifiCorp’s assets did not initiate or contribute to the Beachie Creek/Santiam Creek fire, the company will continue to actively defend against those claims.
Plaintiffs in the settlement are represented by the Warren Allen, Swigart Law Group and Spreter/Petiprin law firms.
The release said the settlement not only provides relief for those impacted by the Labor Day 2020 fires but also is a critical step in stabilizing the financial health of the company and ensuring the delivery of safe and reliable power to over 2 million customers across six states, including 630,000 in Oregon.
