COLDER LOW TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED FOR SOUTHERN OREGON
KQEN News Radio

Colder low temperatures are expected for the next several days in southern Oregon.
Information from the National Weather Service in Medford said overnight lows could be five to ten degrees below seasonal norms. For Roseburg, lows are expected to range between 33 and 39 degrees, with the lowest temperatures forecast for Saturday through Monday.
Forecasters said vulnerable plants and animals may be affected by these temperatures. Sensitive outdoor infrastructure may become damaged, especially with the duration of these conditions. While widespread precipitation is not expected, local frost or freeze conditions may create slick surfaces.
While the federal government shutdown recently ended, forecasters at the National Weather Service in Medford are still not available to talk with the public or the media. An automated phone system with limited forecast information remains in place.
CITY OF ROSEBURG OFFICES CLOSED FOR TWO DAYS FOR HOLIDAY
KQEN News Radio

City of Roseburg offices will be closed for two days for the Thanksgiving holiday.
A city release said offices will not be open on Thursday or Friday.
That includes Roseburg City Hall, the Public Safety Center, Roseburg Public Library and other city buildings. Police and firefighters will continue to provide public safety throughout the holiday.
The library, on Northeast Diamond Lake Boulevard, will be closed from Thursday through Saturday. It is not open on Sundays. The book drop will be closed as well so patrons should hang onto items until the library reopens on Tuesday, December 2nd.
More information about the City of Roseburg is available at www.cityofroseburg.org
ODOT URGES DRIVERS TO STAY SAFE: HOLIDAY TRAVEL RUSH
KQEN News Radio

With the holiday travel rush underway, staff with the Oregon Department of Transportation are urging drivers to stay safe.
Drew Winkelmaier has the story: “Drew3” Q: News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN
An ODOT release said Thanksgiving is one of the busiest travel periods of the year, with many Oregonians hitting the road to visit family and friends. Wet, snowy, and unpredictable weather could quickly turn travel plans upside down for those that are not prepared.
ODOT crews will be out working through the holiday, plowing snow, clearing debris, managing traffic and responding to weather impacts. Drivers are asked to slow down, be patient, and give crews plenty of room to do their work.
Travel tips for safe winter travel this holiday include:
- Expect delays. Thanksgiving travel is busy, no matter the weather. Plan ahead and allow extra time.
- Watch message signs. They provide critical updates about the road ahead – chain requirements, weather hazards, and delays.
- Prepare for winter driving. Carry chains and know how to use them. Pack winter snacks, warm clothes, blankets, medications, and anything needed if traffic slows to a crawl.
- Drive for conditions. Rain, snow, fog or heavy traffic – slow down and leave more space between vehicles.
- Choose a sober, focused and alert driver. Holiday meals and long days can make drivers drowsy. Don’t drive if tired.
ODOT said most construction work will pause over the holiday weekend, but some work zones remain in place. Watch for posted signs and give workers space.

EMPLOYMENT IN DOUGLAS COUNTY: REPORTS DELAYED AGAIN
KQEN News Radio

Employment reports for Douglas County and other parts of Oregon have been delayed again, due to the recent federal government shutdown.
A State of Oregon Employment Department update said the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics has resumed production of the monthly employment reports for the nation on a delayed schedule.
The most recent update from the BLS said, “BLS will not publish an October 2025 Employment Situation news release. Establishment survey data from the Current Employment Statistics survey for October 2025 will be published with the November 2025 data”.
Regional Economist Brian Rooney said currently Douglas County’s monthly nonfarm job estimates and unemployment rate are still not available beyond August 2025. Rooney said publication dates for the states and metropolitan areas have not been announced.
The release said claims for unemployment insurance show a partial picture, as only a portion of all unemployed Oregonians are eligible for these benefits. Ongoing or continued claims have followed seasonal trends, but at elevated levels when compared with recent years. September continued claims for unemployment insurance totaled 1,951 in Douglas County. That is up 9 percent from September 2024.
ROSEBURG VA HEALTH CARE SYSTEM HELPED HOUSE 256 VETERANS LOCALLY
KQEN News Radio

The Department of Veterans Affairs has announced that it permanently housed nearly 52,000 homeless veterans across the country in fiscal year 2025.
That number is just over 4,000 more veterans than the VA housed last year.
A release from the Roseburg VA said the nationwide numbers include 256 veterans permanently housed by the Roseburg VA Health Care System.
This is the VA’s best national performance since it began tracking the number of individual veterans permanently housed instead of the total number of permanent housing placements, ensuring a more accurate count of the number of veterans helped.
In May of 2025, the VA launched its Getting Veterans Off the Street initiative, in which every VA health care system across the country hosted dedicated outreach surge events to locate unsheltered veterans and offer them immediate access to housing programs, health care, behavioral health services and VA benefits. The initiative helped move over 25,000 unsheltered veterans to interim or permanent housing.
Roseburg VA Health Care System Executive Director Patrick Hull said, “This is life-changing and in many cases life-saving work”. Hull said, “We are proud of the progress RVAHCS is making to get veterans off the street and are redoubling our efforts to continue this momentum moving forward”.
