Roseburg Fire Department set to begin issuing residential burn permits on Oct. 1

KEZI 9

The City of Roseburg Fire Department is set to issue residential burn permits starting Oct. 1, and will be available until Oct. 31.

RFD officials said that each permit costs $75 and is valid for seven days. Only residential yard waste is allowed to be burned under these permits. Prohibited items include paper, plastics, and construction materials, authorities said.

Fires must be monitored by a competent adult and extinguished before dark. Burn barrels are banned within city limits. Residents are encouraged to consider alternatives like composting or using the Douglas County Landfill for yard waste disposal.

State Rep. Osborne responds to HB 3991 passage

KQEN News Radio

State Representative Virgil Osborne called the passage of House Bill 3991 a “slap in the face to working families” in a written statement Monday.

Osborne, a republican from Roseburg, said “While Oregonians are already struggling with high costs, Democrats just voted to make it even more expensive to drive to work, take your kids to school, or run a small business.”

He continued to say “HB 3991 isn’t about fixing roads — it’s about funding bureaucracy with zero accountability. There were no real cost controls, no reforms, and no serious attempt at bipartisan compromise.

We could have invested in infrastructure responsibly. Instead, Democrats chose the easy path: tax more, spend more, and ignore the consequences. Oregonians deserve better than this.”

RPD invites public to Coffee with a Cop

KQEN News Radio

The Roseburg Police Department invites the community to join it for a cup of Joe on Wednesday.

RPD will be hosting “Coffee with a Cop” from 8-9:30 a.m. at My Coffee at 1700 Northwest Garden Valley Boulevard in Roseburg.

The event is a chance for community members to ask questions about community policing and get to know the people staffing the local police department, according to RPD. There are no agendas or speeches, RPD said, just a chance to have a conversation.
