OSP AKS FOR PUBLIC ASSISTANCE TO IDENTIFY SUSPECT(S) IN FATAL HIT AND RUN CRASH
KQEN News Radio

Oregon State Police are asking for public assistance in identifying the suspect or suspects in a fatal hit and run crash which took place early Sunday morning south of Roseburg.
An OSP release said just before 1:10 a.m. troopers responded to the wreck involving a pedestrian on Highway 42 near Grant Smith Road in the Green District.
The preliminary investigation indicated that 30-year-old Dustin Rios of Canyonville was in the lane of travel for an unknown reason when he was struck by an eastbound vehicle. This took place close to the Taco Bell location. A black Honda passenger vehicle fled the scene after striking Rios.
Despite lifesaving efforts, Rios was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The release said roadside evidence suggests the vehicle involved is a 2006-2011 black Honda Civic. Evidence from the scene indicated the vehicle sustained damage to the driver’s side mirror. Law enforcement also recovered an adhesive transparent window visor believed to have come from the driver’s side door.
The sedan was last seen traveling eastbound on Highway 42 toward Interstate 5 and may have continued northbound.
Anyone with information is asked to contact OSP’s Southern Command dispatch center at 800-442-2068.
The highway was impacted for approximately four hours during the on-scene investigation.
OSP was assisted by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Winston Police Department, Douglas County Emergency Services, Douglas County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
VEHICLE ROLLS IN FREEWAY CRASH ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON
KQEN News Radio

A vehicle rolled in a freeway crash on Interstate 5 southbound a mile south of Sutherlin on Sunday afternoon.
An Oregon State Police report said just after 4:10 p.m. the driver of an SUV lost control after hydroplaning in the left lane, due to rain. The vehicle eventually came to an uncontrolled rest about twenty feet off the shoulder. No injuries were reported. The SUV was towed from the scene.
FIRE SEASON ENDS FOR ODF SOUTHWEST OREON DISTRICT
KQEN News Radio

After 135 days, the Oregon Department of Forestry Southwest Oregon District declared an end to the 2025 fire season in Jackson and Josephine counties, as of Tuesday.
Public Information Officer Natalie Weber said multiple days of widespread rain across the district and a shift to consistent fall weather has allowed for all fire season regulations and Industrial Fire Precaution Levels to be lifted this week. Weber said the declaration affects 1.8 million acres protected by ODF in the two counties. At this time, industrial slash burning still remains prohibited.
Since fire season was declared on June 1st, ODF firefighters responded to 281 fires in the counties, totaling 3,558 acres affected. Weber said the first large fire of the season was the Upper Applegate Fire on June 18th, located along the 2000 block of Upper Applegate Road. This fire occurred just two days ahead of the anniversary of the 2024 Upper Applegate Fire.
The termination of fire season removes fire prevention regulations on equipment use and the use of fire for debris burning. This applies to public and industrial operations on forestlands.

CHICK-FIL-A EXPANDING IN OREGON, NOT TO ROSEBURG CURRENTLY
KQEN News Radio

Chick-fil-A is opening several new stores in Oregon by 2027, but Roseburg is not currently on the list of future locations.
A company release said two new locations opened October 9th: in Sherwood and Corvallis. Four additional locally owned and operated stores are planned for Oregon, which officials say will create over 600 jobs. Potential communities to receive a Chick-fil-A outlet were not mentioned.
A company statement for News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN said, “We are always evaluating potential new locations in the hopes of serving existing and new customers great food with remarkable service. While we hope to serve the Roseburg community in the future, we do not currently have any locations to confirm”.
