.DISCUSSION...Cooler than normal weather continues today with showers and thunderstorms, most numerous east of the Cascades. High pressure builds in Friday and persists through Saturday with temperature getting back to normal levels. A frontal system will move onshore Sunday with showers primarily from the coast to the Cascades. Breezy conditions develop Sunday afternoon east of the Cascades. A longer stretch of warmer, drier weather begins Monday and lasts most of next week.

GOVERNOR KOTEK ORDERS FLAGS LOWERED TO HALF-STAFF FOR CHARLIE KIRK

Governor Tina Kotek has ordered all flags at Oregon public institutions to be flown at half-staff until sunset on September 14th in pursuant of a Presidential Proclamation, in honor of Charlie Kirk.
Governor Kotek issued a statement: “I offer my deepest condolences to Mr. Kirk’s family. This attack is inexcusable. Violence has absolutely no place in our democracy. America is better than this”.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Governor ordered all flags at Oregon public institutions to be flown at half-staff from sunrise until sunset on September 11th, in remembrance of the nearly 3,000 civilians and first responders that were killed in the 2001 terrorist attacks.

Roseburg area Republican State Representative Virgil Osborne is mourning political commentator Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated on Wednesday.
Osborne released a statement late Wednesday afternoon which said: “I am beyond saddened by the assassination of Charlie Kirk. My deepest prayers and condolences go out to his family, friends, and loved ones grieving this senseless act of violence. Political violence has no place in our country. We must defend the freedoms that allow us to debate out differences peacefully”
Osborne said, “Justice must be swift”.
DINT MAKES DRUG/FIREARMS ARRESTS AT OAKLAND RESIDENCE

The Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team made two arrests Monday, as they concluded a three-month investigation into the activities of Caleb Plueard and Erica Hewlett.
Dint Commander Lieutenant Rick McArthur said Plueard, age 42, and Hewlett, age 44, both of Oakland, were each suspected of unlawful possession of firearms and dealing drugs throughout Douglas County. McArthur said Plueard is a previously convicted felon who was out on parole.
Monday at 7:30 pm. detectives executed a search warrant for a residence in the 400 block of Wells Road. Both were contacted in the home where numerous firearms were found. McArthur said detectives located a total of 15 firearms, 3 suppressors, ammunition and spring switch knives. DINT also allegedly located approximately 159 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 18.9 grams of suspected fentanyl, 6.5 units of Xanax, 0.4 grams of suspected psilocybin mushrooms, cash and drug packaging material.
McArthur said numerous suspected stolen items were found, including electric bikes, power tools, chainsaws, mowers and home improvement items. Of the firearms, one was a short barrel shotgun with a pistol grip, two firearms were unserialized and one was confirmed stolen out of the Douglas County area.
McArthur said Plueard and Hewlett were arrested and lodged at the Douglas County Jail.
Plueard was booked on 53 charges including felon in possession of a firearm, unlawful possession/concealment of firearms, possession of prohibited firearms, felon in possession of a restricted weapon, unlawful possession, delivery and manufacture of methamphetamine, unlawful manufacture or delivery and unlawful possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, theft in the first-degree bv receiving, theft in the first-degree by receiving a firearm and parole violations. Plueard was detained without bail.
McArthur said Hewlett received 8 charges including unlawful possession of methamphetamine, unlawful possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, theft in the first-degree by receiving, theft in the first-degree by receiving a firearm and possession of a prohibited firearm. Bail was set at $15,000.
McArthur said due to the amount of cash, drugs, drug packaging material, stolen property and possession of a stolen firearm, additional charges for commercial drug offenses will likely apply.
SEVERAL FIRES ON THE UMPQUA NATIONAL FOREST NOW CONTAINED, CONTROLLED, OR OUT

Several fires on the Umpqua National Forest are now contained, controlled or out after an aggressive response to multiple new starts.
A UNF update said fires currently being worked include:
*New Start* Watson (#418) – Estimated at a quarter of an acre. Located just east of Watson Creek on the Diamond Lake Ranger District. Three engines and two individual resources on scene.
- New Start* Tower Fire (#416) – Estimated at one-tenth of an acre. Located just west of the Callahan Ridge on the Tiller Ranger District. Fully lined, in mop up.
- Callahan Fire (#413) – Estimated at one-tenth of an acre. Located southeast of Green Butte on the Tiller Ranger District. Fully lined, in mop up.
- Coyote Fire (#401) – Estimated at 30 acres. Located northwest of Tallow Butte on the Tiller Ranger District. Fire is 100% lined, hose lay in place, mop up in progress, 50% contained. Resources engaged on this fire include four engines, two handcrews, one fire squad, and one water tender.
The UNF remains in High fire danger. Public Use Restrictions and the Industrial Fire Precaution Level are both at Level 2.

GOVERNOR APPOINTS TWO DOUGLAS COUNTY RESIDENTS TO BOARD/COMMISSION

Governor Tina Kotek recently selected two Douglas County residents to be re-appointed to serve on a state board or commission.
- Susie Steward was nominated to continue serving on the Oregon Health and Science University Board of Directors
- Elizabeth Hill was nominated to another term on the Oregon Parks and Recreation Commission
The appointments next go to the Oregon Senate for confirmation. The Senate Committee on Rules will consider the nominations during September Legislative Days. The Governor makes appointments to over 265 boards and commissions representing a broad range of areas and issues.
UMPQUA BREWFEST 14TH ANNUAL COMMUNITY CELEBRATION ON SEPTEMBER 20TH

Umpqua Watersheds is hosting the 14th annual Umpqua Brew Fest on Saturday, September 20th from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
It will be in downtown Roseburg, behind Old Soul Pizza on Southeast Main Street. The event is a community celebration of clean water, craft beer, and sustainable living in southern Oregon’s hundred valleys of the Umpqua.
The focus of the event is to allow patrons to taste craft beers from local brewers and others throughout Oregon. Musical performances on the Umpqua Outback Stage will include Jonathan Foster with Mo Ford, the Swiftwater Bluegrass Band, That Other Band, and Melissa Ruth and the Likely Stories. In addition to pizza being on sale, the Umpqua Valley Brewers Guild will be grilling bratwurst.
Admission to the Brew Fest is $15 and attendees must be aged 21 or over. Admissions include a tasting glass and five tasting tickets. Non-alcoholic beverages will be available. Designated drivers are encouraged to join the celebration.
Volunteers are needed to help with the event. Those who work a shift will receive free admission, a tasting glass, tasting tickets and a T-shirt.

OSU EXTENSION SERVICE NEW LEADER TRAININGS THIS FALL

The OSU Extension Service in Douglas County is offering New Leader Trainings this fall for adults who would like to become 4-H volunteers.
An Extension release said these sessions provide essential tools, resources, and support to help people get started as a club or project leader. Training will cover the basics of 4-H volunteer roles, club management and how to create a positive environment for kids to learn and grow.
Training will be held at the Extension Office Auditorium on Southeast Douglas Avenue in Roseburg:
- Tuesday, October 13th at 6:00 p.m.
- Saturday, November 15th at 9:00 a.m.
- Monday, December 8th at 6:00 p.m.
