MYRTLE CREEK POLICE INVESTIGATING ROBBERY OUTSIDE OF BANK
KQEN News Radio

The Myrtle Creek Police Department is investigating a robbery which reportedly took place outside a bank on Sunday evening.
Detective Kevin Taggert said just after 8:45 p.m. MCPD officers and deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to Columbia Bank, formerly Umpqua Bank, in the 100 block of Northwest Pleasant Street. Taggert said law enforcement contacted a man in the drive-through, who reported that he had just been robbed by two subjects. The victim said he was dropping off a deposit for his workplace when the two men approached his vehicle and demanded the money. He told police that one of the men threatened to shoot him. Taggart said the subjects took an undisclosed amount of money and fled the area on foot.
Taggart said DCSO deployed a drone and the Roseburg Police Department brought a K-9 to the scene for a track. The suspects were not located at that time. Taggart said the men were both wearing hoodie sweatshirts and masks when the robbery took place.
Evidence was collected at the scene and is still being processed. Taggart said the investigation is active and no further details will be released at this time.
Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact the Myrtle Creek Police Department at 440-4471.
DEPUTIES JAIL MAN WHO ESCAPES DURING COURT APPEARANCE
KQEN News Radio

Deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office jailed a man who escaped during a court appearance on Tuesday.
A DCSO report issued Wednesday night said at 8:45 a.m. a judge remanded 38-year-old Jesse Dewbre into custody on a felony case at the courthouse on Southeast Douglas Avenue. The court bailiff was headed to the courtroom when Dewbre allegedly took off and ran out of the front of the courthouse. He then reportedly got into a vehicle with another subject, and they took off toward Dewbre’s residence.
Deputies located the suspect outside the home, and he allegedly ran inside. After talking to Dewbre through a bathroom door, he eventually gave up. Dewbre was charged with second-degree escape and for a multiple count warrant. Bail was set at $100,000.
Undersheriff Brad O’Dell said it is very important to note the Dewbre was not in DCSO custody in court. O’Dell said the escape charge comes from when the judge told him he remanded into custody.
OREGON’S NONFARM PAYROLL EMPLOYMENT ADDS 6,900 JOBS IN AUGUST
KQEN News Radio

In August, Oregon’s seasonally adjusted nonfarm payroll employment rose by 6,900 jobs, following a revised gain of 100 jobs in July.
A release from the Oregon Employment Department said August’s gains were largest in health care and social assistance, leisure and hospitality, government, and other services with increases of 2,500, 1,500,1,100 and 1,000 jobs respectively. Losses were largest in wholesale trade, which lost 1,100 jobs.
State Employment Economist Gail Krumenauer said health care and social assistance continued its rapid expansion during the past 12 months. Krumenauer said nursing and residential care facilities added 400 jobs in August and 3,900 jobs or 6.8 percent since August 2024. Hospitals, which added no jobs in August, grew the second fastest of health care’s component industries in the past 12 months, adding 2,900 jobs or 4.6 percent. Social assistance added 2,400 jobs or 3,0 percent while ambulatory care gained 2,300 jobs or 2.2 percent but both categories had slower growth over the year.
OED said leisure and hospitality grew 2.0 percent in the past 12 months, gaining 4,100 jobs, following little change over the prior two years. Since last August, most of its published component industries added 2 percent and 4 percent. Amusement, gambling, and recreation grew the fastest, adding 1,500 jobs or 6.7 percent. In contrast, full-service restaurants cut 1,200 jobs or 1.8 percent.
Krumenauer said wholesale trade declined rapidly in the past 12 months, losing 4,300 jobs or 5.5 percent. All three wholesale component industries shrank substantially in that time: merchant wholesales, nondurable goods lost 1,500 jobs or 4.9 percent, merchant wholesalers, durable goods lost 1,000 jobs or 2.5 percent, and wholesale trade and brokers lost 900 jobs or 13.0 percent.
Oregon’s unemployment rate was 5.0 percent in August, and 4.9 percent as revised in July, after rising gradually over the past year from 4.2 percent in August 2024. The U.S. unemployment rate was 4.2 percent in July and 4.3 percent in August.
ROSEBURG MAKES “10 BEST PLACES” LIST FOR PACIFIC NORTHWEST
KQEN News Radio

The City of Roseburg has been named as second on the WorldAtlas.com list of the “10 Best Places to Call Home in the Pacific Northwest in 2025”.
A city release said the list was announced on September 14th and contains towns in Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. Klamath Falls, Grants Pass and The Dalles are other locations in the state that also made the list.
The website’s blurb on Roseburg notes the city’s setting on the South Umpqua River, as well as its Native American heritage, pioneers, geology, natural beauty and wine industry.
An excerpt said: “The timber industry still shapes Roseburg, but today the town thrives just as much on outdoor adventure and wine country. For those who love the outdoors, the Umpqua National Forest is right at your doorstep, leading to waterfalls, hot springs and endless hiking trails. Wine lovers will want to sip their way through the Umpqua Valley Wine Trail, home to dozens of boutique vineyards that thrive in the fertile valley soils”.
Roseburg Mayor Larry Rich said, “I am not surprised – it’s the best kept secret in our area. This is a great place to live. Those who are fortunate enough to live here see the beauty of this place every day”.

GLIDE REVITALIZATION MOVING LITTLE LOGGERS PLAYSCHOOL
KQEN News Radio

Glide Revitalization will be moving its Little Loggers Playschool to an alternate location beginning October 1st.
A release said the organization’s current building lease of the old Glide Middle School is coming to an end. Program Director Kendall Melvin said for the past five years, the location has served as the foundation for important growth and impact in the community. Melvin said it has allowed Glide Revitalization to provide disaster recovery services, childcare, fire mitigation support, workforce development and many other programs that directly benefit the people of Glide and Douglas County.
Looking forward, Glide Revitalization has purchased the building behind Glide Dental on Wild Thayme Lane, which some may remember as the Lone Rock Grocery Store. They are working closely with federal, state, and county partners to redevelop this property into a full community resource center. Melvin said once complete, the new facility will house expanded childcare, community classrooms, job-seeking resources, public office space and more.
Little Loggers Playschool will continue operating without interruption at the facilities of North Umpqua Bible Fellowship. Melvin said Glide Revitalization is very grateful to their pastors, elders and congregation, for ensuring children and families continue receiving care.
Glide Revitalization staff will be working remotely until the new center is completed in 2026. All its services will remain accessible.
Melvin said, “This marks an exciting new chapter for Glide Revitalization”. We thank the community for your support and patience as we move forward, and we look ahead with confidence to the expanded opportunities this new resource center will bring”.
