ABOVE NORMAL HIGH TEMPERATURES THROUGH THURSDAY IN THE UMPQUA VALLEY
KQEN News Radio

Above normal high temperatures are forecast for the Umpqua Valley through Thursday.
Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Medford told News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN that highs should be in the low to mid 90’s. That’s well above the normal high of 84 degrees for this week in September. The actual high temperature may be impacted by the influence of smoke from nearby wildland fires.
Forecasters said a weak low-pressure system is expected to move into the region on Friday, dropping high temperatures to the mid 80’s.
The high was 86 degrees on Monday at the Roseburg Regional Airport.
RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT 1:00 P.M. TO 9:00 P.M. TUESDAY IN MOUNTAIN AREAS
KQEN News Radio

A Red Flag Warning remains in effect from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday for mountain areas in part of southwest and southcentral Oregon.
Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Medford said abundant lightning on dry fuels is expected for the Umpqua National Forest, the Southern Oregon Cascades and nearby locations.
Forecasters said scattered thunderstorms with abundant lightning is possible. Storms may produce little or no rain, and lightning strikes outside of precipitation cores are possible, and may cause many new fire starts. Gusts of 35 to 50 miles per hour could travel outward to 25 miles from thunderstorm cores.
A Red Flag Warning is issued when forecasters identify weather conditions that promote rapid spread of fire which may become life threatening.
FIREFIGHTERS CONTINUE AGGRESSIVE ATTACK ON DADS CREEK FIRE
KQEN News Radio

Firefighters continue an aggressive attack on the Dads Creek Fire in the Glendale area.
Crews from the Douglas Forest Protective Association and other rural firefighting agencies initially responded Sunday night at 9:00 p.m. on the fast-paced timber and grass fire near the 30400 block of Lower Cow Creek Road.
DFPA Public Information Officer Rachel Pope said additional ordered resources arrived throughout the day on Monday, including assistance from neighboring agencies such as the Oregon Department of Forestry Southwest Oregon and South Cascade districts, and the Coos Forest Protective Association. Pope said air resources, which included four air tankers, four helicopters, and air attack support, were instrumental in assisting ground crews in trailing 60 percent of the estimated 130-acre fire.
In cooperation with the Bureau of Land Management Medford, a temporary road closure has been issued for the safety of the public and firefighters. Pope said the closure order encompasses the Cow Creek Road from the Ruben Historic Site to the intersection with Dad’s Creek.
Due to the proximity of the fire, in coordination with structural fire departments and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Level 1 evacuation orders, BE READY, have been issued for all addresses between 30482 and 31302 Lower Cow Creek Road.
Pope said the cause of the Dad’s Creek Fire is under active investigation.
TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT PATROLS CONTINUE THROUGH SEPTEMBER
KQEN News Radio

Through the end of September, the Roseburg Police Department is having some extra patrols out working traffic enforcement, with a specific focus on safety belt use, distracted driving, speeding and driving under the influence.
An RPD release said these focused patrols are made available due to grants received from Oregon Impact and the Oregon Department of Transportation,
RPD said seat belts have been proven to be one of the best ways to save lives in a crash. Yet many still don’t buckle up.
The release said distracted driving is one of the fastest growing safety issues on the roads today. Distracted drivers aren’t just a threat to themselves: they’re a danger to everyone else on the road. The national distracted driving effort focuses on ways to change the behaviors of drivers through legislation, enforcement, public awareness and education.
Drivers should be on the lookout for specific enforcement campaigns from RPD, for the rest of this month.

WATER SYSTEM/FIRE HYDRANT FLUSHING IN GARDINER THROUGH FRIDAY
KQEN News Radio

The Reedsport Fire Department is performing water system/fire hydrant flushing on all streets in Gardiner through Friday.
A city release said all residents and system users are advised that there may be a temporary drop in water pressure during the system flushing process. Further, after the flushing is complete, there may be a milky coloration to the water. These are bubbles and will resolve shortly. There could also be a small amount of sediment that may be present due to the flushing operations. If either of these conditions are present, users should run the water until the conditions improve.
Anyone with questions should contact the City of Reedsport Public Works Department at 541-271-3603.
