Gusty northeast winds with poor overnight recoveries possible near and at the ridges in southwest Oregon and Fire Zone 280 tonight into early Friday morning and again Friday night into early Saturday

DISCUSSION: A dry cold front will bring gusty breezes this afternoon and evening east of the Cascades with low relative humidity. Then, gusty northeast breezes and moderate to poor overnight recoveries are possible near and at the ridges tonight and again Friday night in southwest Oregon and western Siskiyou County. Dry weather is likely Friday with slight cooling, though Saturday will be warmer again. Breezy southerly winds precede a cold front Sunday with cool and unsettled weather likely for the early part of next week.

Cooler Stretch Continues in Roseburg

Roseburg is getting a welcome cooldown today, topping out near 79 degrees compared to yesterday’s 89. The ten-degree drop has been noticeable across town, with lighter breezes and clearer skies making it feel much more comfortable after a week of late-summer heat.

The break in temperatures isn’t just for a day — the forecast keeps things mild into the weekend. Highs are expected to reach about 82 on Saturday and 78 on Sunday, showing only a slight bump upward but still well below last week’s hotter afternoons. Nights will stay mild, giving residents a chance to enjoy fresh air and open windows.

Meteorologists say this stretch of cooler, calmer weather is right in line with the shift into fall. While temperatures may inch back upward next week, the overall trend suggests Roseburg is finally shaking off the hotter days of September.

For now, it’s an ideal window for outdoor plans, whether it’s sports, yard work, or simply enjoying a more autumn-like weekend around town.

Douglas County Hosts Emergency Communications 101 Seminar

Douglas County Government hosted an Emergency Communications Seminar on Wednesday, aimed at strengthening community preparedness and resilience.

The seminar introduced residents to key communication tools such as HAM radio, FRS, and GMRS, highlighting how citizens can assist during emergencies when traditional systems may be down. Participants also learned about local alert services, including Douglas County Alerts and SOS Mobile Alerts, which provide real-time warnings and updates directly to phones.

As part of the program, members of the Glide Fire Department showcased their GMRS radio system, available for community use in the Glide area and demonstrated how Starlink, a satellite-based internet service, can support emergency responders and residents by maintaining connectivity when other systems fail.

The event was organized by Douglas County Emergency Management, a division of county government, as part of its ongoing efforts to engage the community in emergency preparedness. Officials stressed the importance of residents learning multiple ways to stay informed and connected, ensuring stronger communication during future emergencies.
