THUNDERSTORMS BRING RAIN TO MAINLY SOUTH AND SOUTHWEST DOUGLAS COUNTY
KQEN News Radio

Wednesday night’s thunderstorms and lightning brought precipitation to mainly south and southwest Douglas County with between three quarters of an inch and one inch of rain reported.
Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Medford told News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN that in contrast, the Roseburg Regional Airport received only 0.01 inch of rain. The high on Wednesday was 94 degrees.
Above normal high temperatures are now expected to continue in Roseburg, through Friday. Highs should remain in the mid-90s on Thursday and near 90 degrees for Friday.
Forecasters said a low drifting inland will move into the area by Saturday dropping highs to the low 80s for the weekend. A couple of disturbances could lead to the possibility of showers or thunderstorms.
CONTAINMENT ON DADS CREEK FIRE AT 60 PERCENT
KQEN News Radio

Douglas Forest Protective Association Public Information Officer Rachel Pope said crews have completed the mop-up of 150 feet of the perimeter, raising overall containment to 60 percent.
Pope said 24-hour mop-up efforts are expected to continue for several more days, with ongoing round-the-clock support from DFPA’s dispatch center, focusing on maintaining communication safety for roughly 130 firefighters, heavy equipment operators, and overhead command personnel assigned to the fire.
Pope said the temporary Bureau of Land Management Road Closure remains in effect. The closure includes Cow Creek Road from the Ruben Historic Site to the intersection with Dad’s Creek.
Pope said the Oregon Department of Forestry Activity Level, which includes the Douglas District, is now at Level 4, indicating high wildland activity and strategic resource prioritization. Pope said as significant progress continues on the Dads Creek Fire, resources will be gradually demobilized to ensure they are available for response.
MODERATE DELAYS/INCREASED TRAFFIC EXPECTED ON NORTHWEST STEWART PARKWAY
KQEN News Radio

Through October 20th, moderate delays and increased traffic are expected as a road work and sidewalk ramp replacement project continues on Northwest Stewart Parkway from Northwest Garden Valley Boulevard to Northwest Renann Street in Roseburg.
A city release said businesses on Garden Valley Boulevard and Stewart Parkway will remain accessible throughout the project. The center lane will remain open for turnings. Sidewalks will be closed when ramps are being replaced.
Paving on Garden Valley Boulevard and Stewart Parkway will take place overnight in mid-to-late October.
The Public Works Department is making roadway improvements and ramps compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. New striping on Stewart Parkway will allow for a wider bike lane.

TREE FELLING OPERATIONS ON NORTH UMPQUA TRAIL
KQEN News Radio

Tree felling operations are underway on the North Umpqua Trail.
An Umpqua National Forest release said work will be taking place over the next several weeks to clear trees for the installation of new bridges. This work will help improve trail access, but for the safety of recreators, people should avoid the area while tree mitigation is underway. Signs will be posted, and staff will be monitoring both sides of the felling area. Wood is staying on the landscape as coarse wood debris for wildlife or felled into streams for fish habitat.
The tentative work schedule is:

- Calf Segment – Calf Bridge on September 18th and 19th
- Panther Segment – Panther Bridge at milepost 3.8 on September 25th and 26th
- Panther Segment – Panther Bridges at mileposts 2.6 and 2.7 on October 2nd and 3rd
