OSP Seeks Public's Help in Steelhead Poaching Case on North Umpqua River
OSP is seeking help identifying two individuals involved in the illegal killing of a wild steelhead near Amacher Park on the North Umpqua River. The suspects fled before being identified. Anyone with information is urged to contact OSP. Callers can remain anonymous.

ROSEBURG, Ore. — The Oregon State Police Fish and Wildlife Division is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying individuals connected to the illegal killing and dumping of a wild steelhead along the North Umpqua River near Amacher Park in Winchester, just north of Roseburg.

According to an OSP statement, keeping wild steelhead is strictly prohibited on the Umpqua River system. Despite this, on Thursday, May 8, a father and son were contacted in the Amacher Park parking lot. After they left, troopers discovered a wild steelhead hidden in nearby bushes—close to where one of the two had been fishing. The individuals were not fully identified at the time and fled the area before the fish was found.
The suspects were seen driving a silver or gray SUV resembling a Toyota Highlander. Authorities believe the pair may be from the Springfield area and are known to fish at the Dollar Hole along the Main Umpqua River.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Turn-In-Poachers (TIP) Line at 800-452-7888 or contact Senior Trooper Kyle Bachmeier through the OSP Southern Command Center at 800-442-2068. Tips can be provided anonymously.
