Police Seize Dogs, Firearms in Roseburg Animal Neglect Case

Roseburg police seized 16 dogs, firearms, and ammunition after an investigation into an alleged illegal breeding operation. A 66-year-old man faces 17 counts of animal neglect and firearm charges following the Aug. 18 incident.

Coos Bay Driver Pleads Guilty in UCC Softball Bus Crash

Jonathan Dowdy of Coos Bay pleaded guilty to multiple charges in the April crash that killed UCC coach Jami Strinz and player Kiley Jones and injured eight others. Several counts were dismissed in a plea deal. Sentencing in Coquille is set for Sept. 11.

UCC Begins Work on Welcome Center and Medical Careers Hub

Umpqua Community College has begun building a $21.5 million Welcome Center and Medical Careers Hub. Opening in early 2027, it will centralize student services and expand medical training, backed by an $8 million state match and support from local partners.
