Road to Umpqua Hot Springs Closed Due to Winter Storm
Starting Jan. 6, 2026, NFSR 3401, the road to Umpqua Hot Springs, will close due to a winter storm. Vehicles must park at the gate. Visitors must hike, snowshoe, or ski the final 2.5 miles.
Beginning Tuesday, January 6, 2026, National Forest System Road (NFSR) 3401, the access road to Umpqua Hot Springs, is closed to motorized vehicles due to an incoming winter storm, according to the Umpqua National Forest.
The closure gate is located within the Diamond Lake Ranger District, just past the junction of NFSR 34 and NFSR 3401. Forest officials say the temporary closure is intended to prevent vehicles from becoming stuck in snow and ice along the road leading toward the hot springs near Toketee.
By closing the gate, motorized vehicle access is limited to the parking area at the NFSR 34/3401 junction, reducing the risk of winter-related incidents and improving public safety.

What Visitors Should Know
- Access beyond the gate is on foot only. Visitors wishing to reach Umpqua Hot Springs must hike, snowshoe, or ski approximately 2.5 miles from the closure point.
- Conditions can change quickly. Even when the gate area appears clear, snow and ice are often present farther up the road.
- Navigation may be difficult. During active snowfall, the route can be challenging to follow, especially for first-time visitors.
- Be prepared. The Forest Service recommends bringing a map, compass, or trail guide to assist with wayfinding in winter conditions.
A signed closure order has been posted by the Forest Service located here. Visitors are encouraged to check official Forest Service updates before traveling and to plan accordingly for winter weather and trail conditions.
