Roseburg Forest Products Ends Hardwood Plywood Production in Dillard

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — September 25, 2025 — Roseburg Forest Products has announced it is ceasing production at its Dillard Hardwood Plywood facility and will exit the hardwood plywood market. The decision is part of the company’s long-term strategy to sharpen its focus on core product lines with stronger demand and growth potential.

The Dillard plant, one of Roseburg’s longest-running facilities, employed about 110 people. The company said team members are being encouraged to apply for open positions at other sites and will receive support during the transition. Other operations at the Dillard complex, including MDF and lumber production, will continue.

Company leaders pointed to market changes as a driving factor. Imported products now account for nearly 80% of the U.S. hardwood plywood market, putting pressure on domestic manufacturers.

“Successful businesses never stand still, and that’s been true for Roseburg for 90 years,” said President and CEO Stuart Gray. “As we look to the future, we’re sharpening our focus on the products and capabilities that support the best use of our high-quality veneers and fiber, backed by continued investment in operational excellence.”

Roseburg said its future priorities include engineered wood, MDF, lumber, and softwood plywood. Since April 2023, the company has invested nearly $700 million in Southern Oregon operations, including modernization projects, facility upgrades in Douglas and Coos counties, and the launch of its Armorite® Exterior Trim line at the new Dillard Components facility.

“Our hardwood plywood manufacturing legacy extends back to 1952, and we appreciate everything our operations teams have done to stay competitive,” Gray said. “But our evolution as an organization speaks to changing markets, evolving customer needs and following the best course for long-term success.”
