Roseburg Man Faces New Sex Abuse Charges Following Prior Conviction

ROSEBURG, Ore. — A Roseburg man already convicted of sexually assaulting a minor is now facing additional charges in a separate case involving another alleged victim.

Jerry Lee Thacker, 58, appeared Tuesday in Douglas County Circuit Court before Judge George W. Ambrosini. Thacker, who is currently in custody, was represented by his court-appointed attorney, James A. Criswell. He waived his right to a speedy trial, allowing proceedings to move forward on a longer timeline.

The charges stem from a grand jury indictment on Aug. 19, which included 15 counts of sexual abuse, sodomy, and attempted sodomy, all first-degree felonies. Court records indicate four witnesses testified before the grand jury.

The new case was filed less than two weeks after Thacker pleaded no contest in July to three first-degree felony counts: rape, sodomy, and unlawful sexual penetration, related to the assault of a 13-year-old girl. He had been scheduled for sentencing in that matter on Aug. 6 when prosecutors introduced the new allegations.

A group of supporters from Bikers Against Child Abuse attended Tuesday’s hearing, as they have during many of Thacker’s court appearances.

Thacker remains in custody as both cases proceed through the court system.
