Southbound I-5 semi-truck fire near Winston extinguished
Fire crews extinguished a semi-truck fire on I-5 southbound near Winston Wednesday morning. The blaze started in the engine compartment and spread to the cab and trailer loaded with paper rolls. No injuries were reported, and the cause is under investigation.
Fire crews responded Wednesday morning to a semi-truck fire on Interstate 5 southbound near Winston.
Central Douglas Fire & Rescue Division Chief and Fire Marshal Josh Waechter said the fire was reported at 10:25 a.m. The driver had pulled over at the Winston Exit, milepost 119, when the engine compartment caught fire. Flames spread into the cab and trailer, which was loaded with large industrial paper rolls.

Central Douglas Fire & Rescue dispatched two engines, two command vehicles, and a water tender. Lookingglass Rural Fire District assisted with a command vehicle and water tender. The fire was brought under control shortly before 11:00 a.m.
Oregon State Police and the Oregon Department of Transportation helped manage traffic.
Waechter said the cause remains under investigation. The final fire unit cleared the scene just before noon. No injuries were reported.
