Susan Creek Campground closed for weeklong sanitation; day-use area remains open

IDLEYLD PARK — The Bureau of Land Management has temporarily closed Susan Creek Campground from Wednesday, August 13 through Tuesday, August 19 for health and safety precautions, according to Greg Deimel, spokesperson for BLM’s Roseburg District.

Deimel said the closure allows crews to complete a thorough sanitation of restrooms, fixtures, and shared surfaces. “We’re going to go through and wipe down everything we can, and spray bleach everywhere we can, and give a thorough deep clean and sanitization through everything in the campground,” he said.

While there is no confirmation of norovirus, despite community rumors, BLM is acting out of caution. Deimel noted that norovirus isn’t detected by blood or nasal swabs; diagnosis requires laboratory testing of a vomit or stool sample.

The Susan Creek Falls day-use area and trail remain open to the public during the campground closure. BLM plans to announce when the campground reopens once cleaning is complete.
