Corvallis Police and Fire crews responded to a train trestle collapse near Avery Park on Saturday afternoon.

“Preliminary investigations indicate the trestle gave way while a freight train was passing over it. Currently, no injuries have been reported, but the scene remains active and under investigation,” Corvallis Police shared in a Facebook update.

According to a spokesperson from Portland & Western Railroad (PNWR), the incident occurred around noon when a 19-car train was crossing the bridge just outside Corvallis. One railcar carrying urea derailed into the Marys River during the collapse.

The spokesperson added that environmental agencies and local emergency responders have been alerted, and PNWR is working closely with them.

Later that afternoon, Corvallis Fire reported that one railcar had entered the river, with two additional cars at risk of becoming unstable.
