UCC Begins Work on Welcome Center and Medical Careers Hub
Umpqua Community College has begun building a $21.5 million Welcome Center and Medical Careers Hub. Opening in early 2027, it will centralize student services and expand medical training, backed by an $8 million state match and support from local partners.

ROSEBURG, Ore. — Umpqua Community College has started construction on a combined Welcome Center and Medical Careers Hub, beginning with the demolition of the Del Blanchard Administration Building.
The $21.5 million facility is planned as a central point for student services and healthcare training in Douglas County. The first floor will consolidate enrollment and advising, and the second floor will include skills labs and other medical training spaces. The college expects the building to open in early 2027.

“This is so much more than a building project, it’s a commitment to student success and to meeting critical workforce needs in Douglas County,” said UCC President Dr. Rachel Pokrandt.
According to the college, the Medical Careers Hub is intended to help address local shortages of trained healthcare workers. Funding includes an $8 million state matching grant, along with support from local donors and partners such as Aviva Health and Mercy Medical Center. “This project has resonated with many community members and partners who understand the importance of access to training and healthcare,” Pokrandt said.
The project is part of broader campus investments that also include an Advanced Manufacturing and Forestry Hub and new student housing in downtown Roseburg. For additional details, visit UCC’s website.
