Walkout Planned at Winston Middle School to Address Bullying Concerns
A student-led walkout is planned Monday at Winston Middle School to raise awareness about bullying and safety concerns. Organized by 13-year-old Ashton, the event has gained attention from parents and community members online.
WINSTON, Ore. — A student-led walkout is planned at Winston Middle School on Monday, Nov. 10, at 1:00 p.m., following recent reports of bullying and a student assault that have raised concerns among parents and classmates.
The event was organized by 13-year-old student Ashton and has circulated widely on social media under #WalkOutForWinston, #EndBullyingNow, and #KidsDeserveSafety. The walkout aims to bring attention to student safety and accountability within the school system.
A flyer promoting the event outlines a call to action, stating:
“📣 Students — walk out during 7th period at 1:00 PM.
📣 Parents — share this post, talk to your kids, and show up in support.
📣 Community — stand with us. Demand accountability. Demand safety.”
According to online posts, one teacher reportedly warned Ashton that he could face suspension or expulsion for organizing the walkout. In response, Ashton shared a message through a family member, saying:
“He wants all of his teachers and principal to know that he loves and respects them all and that this is for the board to finally hear the kids’ voices.”
The flyer also describes the walkout as a stand for students who have experienced bullying or felt unheard, emphasizing unity and the need for a safer environment for all.
One parent who has spoken publicly about the issue said their child has faced harassment for years.
“This isn’t just about one student,” the parent said. “It’s about every kid who’s been ignored, hurt, or made to feel small. We’re done being silent.”
School officials have not yet released a statement regarding the planned demonstration. The movement has drawn growing attention online, with many community members expressing support for the students’ message and concerns.
